Yet another example of our government's great record of fiscal responsibility.

Reminds me of the over priced hammers, toilet seats, and the million dollar outhouse built in the National Park, a few years ago.

Erm it seems like there was oversight.....if the auditors caught it that means someone reviewed the system. I don't know about you but I probbaly wouldn't return a check for a million dollars from the government.

Not really; this is a case of the DoD simply being swindled through an automated system with insufficient controls.

And paying, what, $300 for a hammer & $600.00 for a toilet seat was done by a system with sufficient controls? I fail to see much difference in being over charged for "parts", and being over charged for freight.

Slevin57: As for it being caught by auditors: I'd say they were just a might late. Personally, I would never overcharge any of my customers, like that, so returning such a check would never be an issue.

Those are cases of the government agreeing to purchase overpriced goods, as opposed to being cheated without their knowledge.

You can make as many excuses as you want. I still call it "WASTE". If my accounting dept paid bills in such a sloppy manner, at least two people would be looking for new jobs. All someone had to do was pay attention, as they entered a damn invoice into the computer.

I'm not making excuses, I'm saying it's a different situation from the ones you compared it to. It's carelessness and incompetence, as opposed to pork.
