Conservative Blogger, Andrew Sullivan summs up the Jose Padilla trial very well. (http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2007/08/padilla-and-ame.html)

The jury is now deliberating. I was not at the trial and the jurors have the last word. But the Padilla case, as the Christian Science Monitor's editorial today explains, is more than about one terror suspect and one trial. It's about the meaning of America, and the lengths to which we will destroy our system of government in order to save it.
...

What they reveal are war crimes against an American citizen by the American government. What they reveal is a government that claims the power to torture its own citizens in order to protect them.

As far as I am concerned he gave up his citizenship the day he joined Al Qeada.

I am just saying, you make it sound like you are concerned that the al qeada terrorist may not get a fair trial, but scooter liby you were ready to lock aaway without a trail based on the evidence.

With comments like this, you become a hackneyed caricature of someone with an IQ over 80.

Don't ever leave here, Dharma - we need you.

Trav,

Scooter (a Republican) was found guilty in a court in the partisan politicized justice system because the evidence against him was overwhelming.

Scooter also never got denied his rights and was never tortured either.

No, Prat, what you need is a personality transplant.

Or a lobotomy.

Or at least an education.

Yeah, because Scooter was charged with what Padilla was...

Talk to your buddy Trav, he is the one trying to claim they are comparable.

Mmmmkay.

You know what, Dharma - you're a piteously insufferable imbecile who, thankfully enough, only charges what your advice is worth.

The only "education" you're worthy of imparting on others is how to undergo successful auto-erotic asphyxiation, which is, as I can only imagine, your raison d'etre.

I never said that I would teach you anything. You are not worth the effort.

I don't think that dharma is.

But I am, in this particular case.

Padilla is --from what I have gathered about the case against him-- being railroaded.

Libby is the scum of the earth, and should be in prison. Along with his handler, Rove. And Cheney. And Novak.

And Padilla, no matter what these Reich wing kooks think, is an American citizen! He has rights no matter how unpopular he is.

An American citizen who has been convicted by a jury, in a public trial, in front of every virtually every media outlet on the planet.

Yeah. I'm sure his trial was the very epitome of being treated fairly and impartially.

""In a colour-coordinated display of their patriotism, the jurors wore red, white and blue clothing to court before breaking for a July 4th recess.""

An American citizen who has been convicted by a jury, in a public trial, in front of every virtually every media outlet on the planet.

An American citizen who was held in extreme isolation, without charge for three years in complete violation of his rights.

But certain un-American individuals do not care about his rights just because they do not like Padilla.

If you two didn't actually exist we couldn't create even caricatures that would be remotely like you.

If you two didn't actually exist we couldn't create even caricatures that would be remotely like you.

Your problem is that because you lack any conscience or morals you cannot even imagine what it would be like to have them.

So lemme get this straight......having a "conscience" and "morals" affords someone the "imagination" to have them in the first place?

That's fucking brilliant prose there, Einstein.

What kind of bargain basement hallmark store did you find that card in?

You have it about as straight as Liberace, you Prat.

You cannot "imagine" what the moral stance would be because you lack the prerequisite morals to comprehend the concept in the first place.
