No surprise here:
Romney scored 4,516 votes, or 31.5 percent, to outpace former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee who had 2,587 votes, or 18.1 percent. Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback was third with 2,192 votes, 15.3 percent.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani received 183 votes and Sen. John McCain of Arizona got 101.
Iowa's got no room for people who won't participate. I hope Giuliani and McCain have learned their lessons.

I am still waiting for someone to ask Romney what his reaction is to the fact that many of the major religions in America consider Mormons to be a cult.

Somehow I doubt any reporters for the corporate media will dare ask something so controversial of a Republican candidate.

Am I correct each voter had to "give" $35 to the Iowa Republican Party to "vote" in the straw poll, and Romney's campaign paid that to get their supporters to the polls?

What kind of "vote" is this? "Voters" also got all the food they could eat at various candidates booths, is that also correct?

Those who have the most money... rule.

Apparently not.

"Voting at the Iowa Straw Poll will follow procedures unique to this event," stated Chuck Laudner, Executive Director of the Republican Party of Iowa. "You will need to prove your Iowa residency during the credentialing process. This means you will need to display an Iowa driver's license, military ID, student ID, or other legitimate form of photo identification.

Only upon being successfully credentialed will the Straw Poll voter be given a paper ballot to cast their vote. An electronic scan of the photo ID will verify its authenticity and prevent multiple voting attempts. All Iowa residents who will be 18 years old on or before November 4, 2008, will be eligible to be credentialed and vote upon successful completion of that process."

Truthout is correct.

In addition to $2.5 million on television buys in Iowa, Romney has already sent out top-dollar glossy mass mailings, given stipends of $500 to $3,000 a month to some 60 Iowa "volunteer" supporters, paid the $35 charged by the Iowa Republican Party for each of his supporters casting a straw ballot, rented buses to import backers from all over the state, and supplied a barbeque for the entire mass of his attendees.

Very clever of him. I wonder if he has enough money to keep that up..

Yes, he does. Romney is a Billionaire.

Of course that begs the question, Why would someone spend $200 million of their own money to get elected to a job that pays $300 thousand a year?

Odd that the GOP website didn't mention the $35 charge.

So Romney paid the Iowa GOP $158,060 to win the "straw" ballot. What a great "democracy" we have.. . Guess this was just "pocket change" for Romney. Heck, there are probably a lot of Iowans who would "volunteer" for Romney and earn up to $3,000 a month too. Sure beats working at McDonalds, right? Don't know many McDonalds jobs that pay that well.

From the Huffington Post....

Romney was not hesitant, however, in making the most of what he got for his multi-million dollar investment. "The people of this great state sent a message to America, and that is that change begins in Iowa," Romney declared Saturday. "We're just getting started...This message is rolling on."

So Romney paid the Iowa GOP $158,060 to win the "straw" ballot.

And that was without any of the other first-tier candidates there.

No. It's shaping up just like the last two. "Vote for the lesser of two idiots, or don't vote at all".

My husband and I wanted to go to the Iowa Straw Poll but we had other commitments but we almost went. I did get to see and meet Mitt Romney a few weeks ago when he was in town. I liked him because he seemed really down to earth. Although I am not a Romeny follower I do wish him luck.

Or perhaps it's because it's completely irrelevent.

?!?!?

The fact that he is dedicated to a supernaturalist belief system that is --to put it mildly-- like a tale out of the Twilight Zone is "completely irrelevant* for a person vying for the position of most powerful person on earth?!?!?

Are you aware of all the things that these people believe?

Mormon's are unshakeably convinced that a set of golden plates were given --177 years ago-- to Joseph Smith by an angel named Moroni. And the plates had strange writing on them that looked like hieroglyphics but not really. The writing only could be translated by Joseph Smith with the help of special spectacles and two divining stones called Thummim and Urim (not the same as the divining stones used by ancient Hebrews, but in the same category). And they believe that after Smith translated the writing on the golden plates, the Angel Moroni took them back and disappeared to the realm from which he came.

And of course, there's the magic underwear.

Hopefully, most people will choose the former.By not voting, you're giving up your primary source of power over the government.

If he gets elected President, will he have them put the Presidential seal on his magic underwear?

As long as our Presidents are elected by the Electoral College, the individual voter has no power over the government, especially if he lives in an "all or nothing State".
