On May 18, 2001, Gil Barber a young black man, was murdered by Deputy Thomas Gordy in High Point, North Carolina. Gil had been seriously wounded in a one-car accident, and was stumbling through the neighborhood, looking for help. Officer (overseer) Gordy arrived on the scene. And decided that the best course of action would be to "subdue" Gil by pepper spraying him. Gil was unarmed, not under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, and was not wanted for any crime. Gil, still confused by the car accident, resisted the officer, so Gordy pulled his gun. In the end, Overseer Gordy was shot twice in the leg, and Gil was left dead in the middle of the street. When the neighbors came out they helped the officer not Gil. What Gil needed was an ambulance, not a cop. And he certainly did not need deserve to die. Deputy Gordy went to work the next day. He was never reprimanded for what is obviously a case of excessive force. Gil's family sued the Sherriff's Department of Guilford County but it was to expensive to sue a Shaerriffs department so they had to drop charges, to no avail, and now Gordy, showing no remorse whatsoever, has launched a countersuit against Gils family, for emtional distress and defamation of character which he supposedly suffered because they openly called him a murderer in the press. This is a call to action. Pleace talk to your friends about Gils death, and for more info you can call copwatch at (336) 275-8079. We can not let this be forgotten. Police brutality is a problem in every community.

No one deserves to die for no reason, but I have a question how do you know he was confused from the accident or he was looking for help if was dead before anyone talked to him?

How did the cop get shot, if Gil as you say was unarmed?

I agree that their is cop brutality, but these key facts determine my opinion, so if you got any more info, I would love to hear them, so I can decided.

Police reports, autopsy reports, and peoples who saw him stumbling around the neighborhood proved that he was confused after the accident. Also common sence may come into this one why whould he be stumbling around for the heck of it?

I don't hate police. I hate a majority of police who abuse the badge.

LOL this is true. The fire department is usually quick and never let fires burn out of complete control. The Raleigh cops are quick if you get into an accident they were their in like 5 minutes when I got hit on the belt line.

I dunno what it's like where you live but 'round here the cops are honest and decent. They help and protect the people whenever they can. When I was once in a few threatening situations they came by and helped me out. I gotta say that they gave me some of the best advice ever on how to protect myself, no bull, just straight facts.

As for the right to defend yourself, yes, I'm totally for that as well. As soon as I own my own house I will get a gun, learn how to use it properly and then put it to good use when I need it. Any ----er that doesn't get that should read the constitution.

I'm sick of seeing ----ing cops profile people because of there color, religon, ethnic group etc.... I'm sick of watching cops treat people like 2 cent hookers because they have a ----ing badge on there chest. Now I'm not saying all bacon is bad because there are a few who actully try to make a change in the community and I think them for that... But those right winger facist cops need to have there ----ing badge revoked and thrown in the desert naked.....

When somebody (of different ethnicity pulls a gun on you and wants your money. You'll want the cops. SO stop slamming cops.

BS, when a person of different race pulls a gun on a white guy, its cause he was deprived as a child....and he needs the money...

But a white guy pulls a gun on any other color guy, its cause he is that color...BULL ----!

See that what pisses me off....Hate crime is a hate crime, and a crime is a crime, "no matter how you slice it"
