E. Admiral Henry Osborn (baptized 27 August 1694 – 4 February 1771) naval officer and Commodore Governor of Newfoundland, born England died London, England.

Osborn volunteered for the Royal Navy in 1716. He was promoted lieutenant in 1717, and his first command was HMS Squirrel in 1728. On 14 May 1729, Osborn was appointed the first commodore governor of Newfoundland, when Lord Vere Beauclerk, the naval commander of Newfoundland had declined. He visited all of the notable places on the island and divided it into six districts. Within each of the districts he appointed magistrates and constables.

On 1757, he was promoted Admiral of the Blue, and in 1763, received the honorific post of Vice-Admiral of Great Britain. He entered Parliament in late 1758 for Bedfordshire in a by-election, sitting until 1761.

Please, let's stay with the pig for a moment...you referred to Osborn as:

"An American Geologist who was first to describe a tribe of people from a pigs tooth."

Do tell. Sounds like an interesting story.

Good to see you stop by Vile. Its always a pleasure to see what you take interest in.

"Nebraska Man was the name applied by the popular press to Hesperopithecus haroldcookii, a putative species of ape. Hesperopithecus meant "ape of the western world" and it was heralded as the first higher primate of North America. Though not a deliberate hoax, the classification proved to be a mistake."

I think Vile wanted specific information regarding the pig's tooth you mentioned. He isn't the only interested party here.

I was interested in what you thought about "Nebraska Man" and his significance in the Evolution/Creation debate.

Good enough for a side note, something to show that mistakes can be made.

In this case I was bringing up a question that is commonly known to demonstrate what is rarely discussed about the man.

I was thinking about making several of these questions that could be easily done in roughly 5 minutes and then making each one a thread all its own.

It just seemed kind of childish.

So I gave up the idea.

What do you think of Nebraska Man?

Henry "Harry" Osborn is the son of Norman Osborn, a.k.a. The Green Goblin ;)

I see. I would say that he didn't describe a "tribe" from a tooth, he described an individual.

I think you were right when you said "Good enough for a side note, something to show that mistakes can be made".

I also think it shows how mistakes are corrected. A scientist made a mistake in this case and identified a porcine molar as having proto-human origins. Other scientists discovered this mistake, and corrected the error. That's how science is supposed to work. :)
