It is less than amusing that apparently some astronauts were allowed to fly drunk. One has to wonder just what has been going on in the space program. Of course the other story out about NASA today is even more troubling.
Someone apparently sabotaged a computer that was to be launched aboard the Endeavour this month.

The interesting part of this story is that the computer was apparently intentionally damaged.
All in all not a great day for NASA.

They should have stronger security and stricter rules.

Although it is all rather vague about the drinking based on rumours and here-say, it is disturbing that such rumours would surface.
Whether it be the pilot or flight crew none should have alcohol in their system before launch.

Tried to decide if I was concerned about this report when I heard it last night.
Do you know how much booze it would take for ME to climb aboard a spacecraft?
Can't really say I blame 'em.

If an astronaut needs to be drunk to climb aboard the space shuttle, they are in the wrong job. I would think it would be desirable to have the astronauts sober to properly operate the shuttle just as it is desirable to have sober drivers of automobiles.
The business of someone sabotaging the computer is also troubling. According to the television news reports several wires inside had deliberately been cut. This could be a worker with a grudge against his company, or it could be something worse, such as an Al Qaeda operative trying to destroy the space shuttle or international space station. Hopefully the investigation will turn up the culprit.

Exactly - why would an astronaut- who goes through years of vigorous and stringent training be drunk before a flight? And also, the team members that brought this matter up with nasa officials were ignored.
That sabatoge with the computers is no laughing matter either.
And, hey, what is going on with the Nowak case????

That's years of being in a highly competitive pressure cooker as well. Some wait decades just to get a back seat ride as a mission specialist. That there's not a program in place to take a regular look at what's going on between their ears as they do with the physical health is at the very least, unethical.
This Navy Times (http://www.navytimes.com/news/2007/07/ap_astronauts_drinking_070727/)article is an eye-opener.

Part of the problem with NASA is that it is not a corporate giant but a government agency.

Well that's true. The point is when production becomes more important than ethics or human life this is the result.
