Picking up money off the floor of a bank ain't a crime, Foolie. (Unless granny's holding a gun, that is.)
These men already committed their crime (soliciting sex from a minor) BEFORE they ever showed up at her door. That's the part you seem to have trouble understanding.
It's against the law to solicit sex from a minor. Even via the internet.
Got it?

If little teen girls, are engaging in sex talk on the net, that's one thing.
But I'm not buyin the Premise of Dateline. That beaing that this Internet
predator Sex Chat stuff results in REAL Underage Sexual Hook-ups.
Oh it certainly does happen. Have you not heard news stories about young girls being raped, kidnapped, and murdered by men they met online? I've been solicited online by older men plenty of times. Luckily for me, I'm not stupid enough to give out my address.

Dateline { run by Liberals} is merely trying to drum-up
fear & trepidation, exactly like Gore and his - Global Warming -
Scare.If the show wasn't being watched,they would
have dropped production. But it's turning into a Cash Cow.
If yoy wanna believe that Internet Predators hookin-up

Foolsworth,
1. I've already defined entrapment for you as pertinant in legal situations.
2. It has nothing to do with being liberal or conservative.
3. These guys acted exactly as they normally would be in that sort of situation with a normal 14 year old. The only difference is that someone was watching this time.
I think there's something very wrong with modern culture where viewing children as sex objects is becomming a norm.

I think you are caught in a time warp Foolie. I think you are very bright but your preoccupation with liberal vs conservative is blinding you. With your IQ that alone should scare you. And your view of the world and how it functions are back almost half of a century.
Predators touching children, people bashing their kids and their spouses, women used as sex slaves and toys, trafficked between here and Europe children trained and used to man armies .... it is all endemic Foolie and your lack of awareness of such surprises me. Google it.
I watched a child advocate on TV one day. He is a lawyer. He writes fiction detective books to support himself. He was a social worker. When he saw a nine month old baby dripping with VD he quit and went back to school because he knew that being a social worker would expose him to the worst he would see and he would be powerless to effect change.
This stuff is not far-fetched Foolie it is merely the tip of the iceberg.

I agree, Sal. Foolie is out of touch with the reality of what goes on via the internet. Not so sure it's because he's 'behind the times' as much as the fact that he's not a female and has no idea what women get bombarded with online (if one isn't careful).
When I started out on the 'net, I was on AOL (weren't we all?) My first experience was in the chatrooms. There is NO bigger meat market than that place. I've been propositioned by men as old as 80 and boys as young as 14. I was nauseated by the numbers of STR8MM4M lurking around. The whole chatroom scene appeared to be one big cesspool of desperate people looking for someone to help with their personal perversion. I've since learned to stay away from such places, but I have absolutely no doubt things have only gotten worse.
The internet allows us to ignore age, looks, social status, etc. Everyone who types what we want to 'hear' becomes a potential partner.
And that includes underage girls and boys, usually too naive to understand the consequences of their actions.
I don't think Fool is being purposely obtuse about this subject. I think he just doesn't really understand what's out there. As the old saying goes, I believe he leads a 'sheltered life' -- wish we all enjoyed such a luxury.

Yer just mistaken and quite Naive.
MSNBC which regularly airs a partial segment of their { NBC}
Predator clips on Abrams 9pm slot.And on Friday's,that 9pm
time slot is either dedicated to entire airings of - Predator -
or like at 10 pm,their - Jail series-.
The reason being is entirely Programming.
Since MSNBC which airs Keith the Kook Oberman and - Countdown -
with very poor ratings, they choose to just pass on 10 pm
against Fox's Greta and on friday, also the 9 pm slot.
What i'm tryin to say,is { Dateline Predator } airs throughout
the week on MSNBC,which is THE most Liberal Cable outlet in
existence. And since Fox News,THE most Conservative
is viewed by MSDNBC as it's ARCH Rival and even gives up
regular programming like at 9pm tonight, entirely based on
Political Reality.

So,show me a Newspaper article chronicling an actual reported
case of Child Predator over the Net.
You can't.Up until Dateline Concocted and decided to contrive
Scenario's which would in all liklihood,be a huge smash with most
folk.Since most everyone is now Online,it's only natural to
find a certain percentage who would LOVE to believe some
Boogeyman Scenario exists.
Like the popularity of many a Stephen King novel.
I swear,to hear some folk, they actually Believe some of those King
characters exist.
Internet Predators exist. But one would also have to believe, that little
12,13,14 yr. old Teen girls, are also extremely dedicated at
an obsession. It's like askin a Bank Robber how many
Egbert Souse - The Bank Dick - he's seen in his life as a Bank robber.?
There's only ONE Egbert {W.C.Fields},and thankfully only
ONE Bank Dick.

Not so much that there ARE obsessed and willing little teen horny toads... but that there are many, many unsupervised teens out there who might not know the difference between undivided attention from an adult... and an older perv looking for a hook-up.
Since we, as a society, have no way of stepping into the parent role for these kids, the least we can do is try to supervise the pervs.
I can't personally do it... but I have no problem with NBC Dateline doing it.

Kidding, yes I liked your use of the word cesspool. It can indeed, be a cesspool. And the naive are the victims.
The internet allows us to ignore age, looks, social status, etc. Everyone who types what we want to 'hear' becomes a potential partner. Yes and people lie and mislead. Took me a while to figure out that just because I presented as I was did not mean the person on the other end of the chat was doing the same.
Took me about a year too. That is why I prefer forums such as this. The group is regular and long term for the most part. Talking about actual views and issues causes a personal pattern to emerge after a while. More real life presentation than soul baring crap. It's far more reflective of reality.

What is that - straight male looking for male on male action? Isn't that somewhat of a contradiction in terms? That is disgusting, but it also speaks volumes about the internet and who gets drawn out in "chatrooms". Pedophiles? Homosexuals? C'mon now, it's an avenue for these people, nothing more - nothing less.
The whole chatroom scene appeared to be one big cesspool of desperate people looking for someone to help with their personal perversion. I've since learned to stay away from such places, but I have absolutely no doubt things have only gotten worse.
What makes you say that? Do you think the Internet has actually created more perverts than mother nature (or bad parenting did, for that matter)? It's no "worse" now than it ever was. Ugly, stupid deviants are gonna do ugly, stupid things, period. The Internet just made it convenient for them to partake in the activity - illegally or otherwise.
The state uses the same duplicitous, sophistry when appealing to the public for tighter DUI restrictions and more cops on the street. Like there's more offenders on the road now than there were 10, 20, or 30 years ago (population growth aside). Noooooo - DUIs are a cash cow, and they've changed the law to make a person guilty until they can prove their innocence in court (which is, if you exercised your "rights" during the stop, virtually impossible to do), hence more DUIs in general, and consequently, more convictions in district court, period. Unlike with the perverts on the Internet, the police truly do entrap motorists on the streets, pull people over for bullshit reasons, levy trumped-up charges against them, ruin lives for profit, and for what.....so more high school graduates/college dropouts can find work as a penis in a uniform on my dime?
Not to go too tangential, but I recently had a funny conversation with an officer I seriously pissed off regarding photo ticketing. We just placed several photo-radar speeding traps, intersection cameras, and now employ the use of a Cessna 172 for "traffic control" at a 5,000-dollar daily expense to our taxpayers (plus the cost of the equipment, of course) over two major Chicago toll ways - I-355 and I-290. During the chat, he was extolling the ultra-effective intersection cameras as infallible, and I said, "great....so if we've got this system of infallible traffic control at our disposal, then what do we need you for?" "Uh, but I patrol the streets while providing a service that a traffic camera can't do." "Fair enough, so would it be silly of me to assume that at 100K a pop for intersection cameras, we could lay off two uniformed officers, and still not be shorthanded? I mean, the streets are being effectively, and how did you put it, "infallibly patrolled", right? Hell, as far as I can tell, officer, you need to install a lot more cameras..." ::followed by muffled laughter in the background::
God, it was great - and it was in front of about 50 people at my (court ordered, no less) "risk management" class.
The internet allows us to ignore age, looks, social status, etc. Everyone who types what we want to 'hear' becomes a potential partner.
I never had to resort to e-banging some chick in Ohio, SMW. "Potential partners" on the Internet (if willing) are almost always fat, ugly, old, or dumb.
Or they're any combination of the four - take your pick.
And that includes underage girls and boys, usually too naive to understand the consequences of their actions.
Maybe, but then again, their Internet time should be supervised in the first place.

Back in my day, sonny... the worst thing that usually happened to young girls was getting flashed by some perv sitting in a car. I remember more than a few times when me and some g/fs were walking and happened across some dude with his pecker in his hand. The most they ever did was leer at us when we ran past. Or those we called 'mashers' one might run into at a movie theater... doing the same thing. We reported them to the ushers who escorted them out.
Pervs are not new to society.
But at the same time, I wouldn't necessarily say there aren't MORE of them nowdays than there were back then. After all, it can't be too fulfilling to sit behind a keyboard, shaking one's pecker at a monitor.

LOL. That's great, Prae. I'm sure Decka doesn't condone child porn, but you have to have an age at which to draw the line.
You could say that many young women are mature at the age of 16. And that's true, but you have to get to the age at which almost all young people are capable of making informed decisions on their own. Of course there will always be exceptions, but our government has decided that for most matters this age is 18.

Well, then, by your benchmark, men are really fucked.

True, true...
But, then again, EVERY male is a child until he's 40. And then something magical happens (of course, it's dependant on whether or not the male in question has a three-digit IQ and ambition).......he becomes a wealthy "child". Then his life improves 10-fold. ;)

I'm not claiming to know the answers...
all I am saying is that some guy who stuffs a 17 year old because she wanted it or because she willingly profited from it shouldn't get 10-15 years in the state pen. Maybe SHE should get 10-15 years too.

17 is legal in many states. But I think you're right. My point was, where would you draw the line? Could you say the same with 16? How about 15? 14? I just want to know.

Like I said Dark.. I have no idea...
I would assume it would be circumstantial.. I mean, If you are a 16 year old and homeless.. I could see being a prostitute being a more realistic option than if you are living with mom and dad in a mansion.
My suggestion would be to not make it black and white... maybe have a grey area. Keep the law at 18, but ages 16-17 are not as much of a penalty as say 13 or 14.
that's messed up if some 17 year old can get her 19 year old bf 10 years in prison.

1. Good idea.
2. I don't think she can in most states. I believe that 17 is legal in all but about 10 states, and in the states where it is illegal many of them have laws about the age of a man - like if he's less than 4 years older, there is no penalty.

I disagree with both of you.
The man MIGHT have been a sexual predator. If he was he should have been arrested, tried, and IF convicted, sentenced.
That is not what NBC was doing. NBC by televising the arrest on national television was trying and convicting him without benefit of trial. Once a person is accused of being a sexual predator, especially on national television there is no way of ever getting one's life back even if found innocent.
It may be popular to want to see sexual predators punished but that does not trump the rule of law. NBC instigated the sting for ratings purposes and not out of concern for anyone involved with the case. Hopefully we are not yet at the bread and circuses stage of our existence and NBC will be hit with a hefty penalty.
I agree with you.
I also like to add Dateline NBC allegedly attempted to infiltrate the DefCon hackerfest with a producer using a hidden camera. The show hoped to tape hackers admitting to illegal activities, but DefCon got wind of the plot and displayed the would-be-mole's photo before every presentation. Dateline refused to deny the planned infiltration. 'All journalists covering DefCon sign an agreement upon registering for the conference that outlines the rules, but the DefCon organizers say the mole apparently registered as a regular attendee, thereby bypassing the legal agreement. Dateline NBC is best known for its controversial To Catch A Predator series, which uses hidden cameras to tape men who are allegedly seeking to have sex with minors they met online.

I think To Catch a Predator may in ways be unethical, but overall a positive attempt in trying to thwart sex offenders from molesting/raping/kidnapping/killing minors.
You can blame the show for the guy killing himself. But who the hell reacts like that? "Hey, cops! BAM!" Come on, there was clearly something mentally wrong with the guy, that's obvious.
Anyway, conclusion. Show may be unethical, but not as unethical as these old dudes looking for little girls/boys.

MySpace finds 29,000 sex offenders on its site (http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2007-07-24-myspace_N.htm)
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — MySpace.com has found more than 29,000 registered sex offenders with profiles on the popular social networking website — more than four times the number cited by the company two months ago, North Carolina officials said Tuesday.
Do note, please, that:
1. The 29,000 that were caught had registered under their own names. How many more are MySpace members using aliases?
2. MySpace found these people by comparing their member names with lists of known sex offenders. How many sexual pervs are MySpace members who've never been arrested/convicted of sex crimes?
3. This is just ONE social networking site. How many others are there?
My god.
The number of sick and twisted fuckwads out there is just astounding. What the hell is wrong with people (and by people, I'm talking mostly about men; females comprise only 1.2 percent of arrests for rape and 8.0 percent of arrests for all other sex offenses (U.S. Department of Justice, 2002)? It's a freakin' epidemic. :@@:

That is an eye opener.
I truly think we need to start looking at this in a serious way. Other than the vigilante "cut their nuts off" type of approach. From a societal standpoint these figures that are surfacing are horrendous. It speaks of some dark pockets of pus within the family structure.

Geez, Prae. I thought we were friends. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
Anyway:
According to the 2000 Census, there are about 138.1 million males in the US. Six percent of 138 million is 2,280,000. I'm afraid there just haven't been that many men in my life. But it's nice to know you think I'm that popular. ('Course, when you look this good (http://img62.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sexylacyjn8.jpg), it's hard not to be noticed.)
Main Entry: eu·nuch
Pronunciation: 'yü-n&k, -nik
Function: noun
1 : a castrated man placed in charge of a harem or employed as a chamberlain in a palace
2 : a man or boy deprived of the testes or external genitals
3 : one that lacks virility or power <political eunuchs>
1. I've never employed a castrated man to care for my harem or my palace
2. I've never deprived a man of his testes or pee-pee (usually, they get a little bigger, when I'm around)
3. If you're lacking virility or power, it ain't my doin'.

Damn straight! I've got the 'cue warmin' up, I've just been shoveling dirt/rocks and leveling some land behind my barn (getting a new TuffShed in a few days - whoohoo!), there's a load of clothes in the washer, and I'd mow the lawn, but something's wrong with the damned mower.
