Do John Mellencamp-hater's wanna do violence ta his message???

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - John Mellencamp said he and his wife, model Elaine Irwin-Mellencamp, were surprised by the negative reaction to a song on his new album that questions the war in Iraq.

The couple answered criticism of "To Washington" in an essay
published in Thursday's Herald-Times.Since the song was released as a single as the war with Iraq was beginning in March, the couple has taken heat for its political content, which includes an apparent critique of President Bush.

They said some people had mistakenly labeled them pacifists.
Irwin-Mellencamp described an encounter with one person who said the way to test a pacifist was to punch him in the nose and see how long it took him to hit back.

Coincidence? Sounds like a... philosophy espoused on a G. Gordon Liddy site...

[1. Listen politely while this person explains their views.

Strike up a conversation if necessary and look very interested in

their ideas. They will tell you how revenge is immoral, and that

by attacking the people who did this to us, we will only bring on

more violence. They will probably use many arguments, ranging

from political to religious to humanitarian.

2. In the middle of their remarks, without any warning, punch

them in the nose.]

Uhhh, careful, Mr. Liddy, not ta pick on any pacifist soccer

players... they've been trained ta kick their opponent's...

balls...

Heaven forbid anyone question this administration's foreign policy.

I like Bush, I supported the decision to go into Iraq, and I continue to believe in what we're doing there. But I am concerned by the fact that anyone who speaks out is called a pacifist at best, anti-patriotic at worst. It's troubling.

Being a Dubya supporter is akin to having voted for Nixon. Anyone around here other than yours truly going to admit voting for either of them?

Nixon is before my time, but I voted for Dubya. Don't regret it either.

SOunds like the liberals in the press are trying to silence people free speech. You see, to liberals, free speech only works one way. Its free speech for John Cougar Melloncamp to write a song critical of the war in Iraq, but its not OK for people to be critical of his song, they are trying to silence his free speech, while in reality they are using the same right as him.

On second thought, maybe that's not quite accurate. Dubbya DOES listen a bit ta his RICH Enron-type buddies... ;)

I put J.M. right up there with Madona, and the Dick Chicks, put them all together give them a half a brain and that is still all they would have, is half a brain. I will listen to someone that has something to say if it is worth listening too. Just because a person has fame and fortune does not mean they are smart. Heck I admit I like some of Queens songs but that still doesn't mean I'm going to follow there sexual guidance. John is a performer maybe that is what he needs to stay with?

Its funny, i dont remember anyone telling these leftist artists they cant talk or use their right to free speech, except the consumers who buy their products, who use their right to not have to buy their crap to show them how they feel. this is called a boycott, a beloved tactic of the left, except when it is used on them, in which case it is called stamping out their right to free speech.

Rock music & politics go hand in hand, it’s been that way since the 60s. It’d be unusual if J.M. DIDN’T criticize the prez at some point.
