Andy Richter Controls the Universe, new Fox show just released as a new series on their network and it's not just about the review of what we all thought of it, but rather, how it got here and its surroundings, so I'm bringing up this topic.
I'll start off with my review: I thought it was pretty good. I mean, there can be a comedy come along and pass as good to be considered for a continuation, like Undeclared (a little bit under-rated), or it can be destroyed rather quickly like Hank Azaria's show, Imagine That, on NBC in January 2002, which failed at impressing anyone for a Tuesday evening show.
Richter has become a cool comedy with a smart guy. If you watched the previews, you wouldn't necessarily think this guy was so smart, but rather cool, but he is good. He is a writer and projects manager for a very large company in the United States of America and has things going his way quite often.
Fox isn't changing too much, but rather coming along with what new fresh modern comedy brings the network. It's not dying, like some shows it cut off in the past (and recently!).
Undeclared was pre-empted last Tuesday for Richter and it's questionable where that puts this college-based show in future episodes of its first season, having started a bit late in 2001. Fox has recently cancelled Family Guy for the second time, forever, and Futurama was cut off, in the middle of its fourth season. Futurama is at least fortunate enough to be still on the charts until January 2003 or at least 'mid-season' in what would be their fifth, but not really, since they have been pre-empted so much that they will show un-aired episodes not fit in to this 'season''s time-slot next 'season''s.
The Simpsons is also growing older, currently in its thirteenth full 30-minute episodes season, and it is rumored it will be cut off and cancelled in the 2002-2003 run at the same time Futurama ends, after a good life that can't go on too much longer, or everything would be totally spoiled.
It's a good network, with good shows, overall, either way it goes...
Have any opinions on this new Richter sitcom or anything in general about its network? You may post here and join the conversation thread...
