No, this isn't a UFO thing, at least not that I know of.
This is a personal observation from my own yard, if it's in the wrong forum I apologize, but I really wanted to know if anyone else has noticed this.
My girl and I were out one night at about 3 am looking at the stars, and we noticed a weird one. It would flicker to an extreme, disappear for a moment, and then come back. But that's not the eerie part. This "star" would hover around an area, moving in a circular, irratic pattern. And as we watched this "star" unexplainably move around, we noticed that every few seconds a very light, but noticeable "cloud" would be emitted from it. This cloud would sometimes look like a thin 5 pointed star, sometimes a blob of gas, sometimes a sloped triangle. And this "substance" which was being emitted was VERY light, and reminded me of the smoke which comes from a candle- very wavy and curly.
So after seeing this, we noticed about 3 others which had the same properties. And as the night went on, they moved across the sky, hovering in a certain focal point which went across the sky much too fast to be explained by the earth's rotation.
I saw one the next night, and then I just went outside to walk my dog at night and saw 2 or 3 of them. one was VERY bright, and another moved rapidly across the sky towards the location just above me, so i went inside. I cannot explain what these are. I just took astronomy, and my only guess is atmospheric distortion. However, how do you explain the impressively artistic "clouds" being emitted from it? And how come it moves so fast across the sky? I challenge anyone to go outside and take a look for themselves. I live near Cleveland Ohio, so I can't verify if they are visible anywhere else. However, I showed my mother tonight after telling her about them and she didn't have an explanation either. It's just not explainable. I'm hoping to borrow my friends telescope to take a closer look.
