The Coulter / Matthews thread went far afield and became an Overdose thread. I didn't want to add to it there.

We're not dealing with the same Overdose of two years ago. He was a bit of a jerk then (sorry if you see this OD). Unfortunately on AllForums, as in real life, the negative gets deeply imprinted in us.

I think if Overdose started posting in the last six months and we had no memory or knowledge of him prior to that we'd be acting very differently toward him.

There is the occasional spitting match (like the Imp vs. Overdose on the Picture Post thread which is a classic) but, in defense of him, they are usually something like five against one, so I would get pretty defensive too.

Just a thought.

Uhhhh, and all the people who dislike me will post in here and tell Brooks why he's wrong and why I'm a whiner and a prick. And it will turn into another flame war of people personally attacking me.

I've been here since OD signed up, and I've seen all the battles. He has opinions, and he tends to back them up with sources. You may disagree with him, and he may occasionally have his facts wrong, but that can happen to anyone.

Brooks was right when he mentioned that a typical "spitting match" involving OD usually involves multiple people making less-than-flattering personal remarks (like yours above Nap), some of them quite vicious. I would add that it's been my observation that OD has rarely, if ever, returned that viciousness. I find that admirable. All-in-all, I think OD is a fine young man, and I'm glad he's a member here. :)

He's certainly defended himself, but I haven't seen him get as nasty, as often as his detractors.

Well, sure, but I would argue that what he does respond with is even worse than viciousness. He cannot argue, debate, express himself, or even defend himself effectively. That wouldn't be much of a problem, (Decka) if he didn't display his holier-than-thou attitude at every opportunity, like his latest bit, putting the three posters he has on ignore on his sig, like everybody else is supposed to care. That's the real reason he gets beat up on constantly. If he had even the slightest bit of sophistication, (Hell, even Prae's got that much!) or toned down the attitude, people wouldn't rag him half as much, and it certainly wouldn't get to a five-six poster brawl.

That was uncalled for. There's really no need to get into a big discussion which is pretty much everyone venting at OD. I have half a mind to close this thread for that very reason, but (and maybe I'm naive here) I have faith that people can be civilized here. I hope that's not too great a task for everyone.

If I was a mod, I'd have closed it. No offense to Brooks, but threads shouldn't be made singling a poster out either to attack or defend them, particularly one so disliked as OD. It's a recipe for no good.
