View Full Version : Prayer To The Virgin Mary

Pray one Hail Mary for nine days. Use a lit candle and ask for three favors, one economic and two impossible. Publish on the 8th day. On the 9th day, allow the candle to be consumed.
Even without faith the favors will be fulfilled.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. AMEN.

That's one aspect of Catholicism I never quite understood - the idea that a saint will grant a wish if you ask a certain number of times. Although I'm impressed that the saints have gone internet now - back in the day I only saw these as ads in the back of the local paper.

It's the Lord Jesus Christ that we need to pray to. He is the ONE who can answer prayers. Mary even acknowledged Jesus as being Lord. When Jesus turned water into wine(John2:1-10), she says in vs 5, "Whatsoever He says unto you, do it." Mary cannot save you, she cannot grant you salvation, for there is no name under heaven other than Jesus Christ that we must be saved(Acts4:12). He is the one who took the penalty of sin upon Himself(Isaiah53:5, 1st Peter2:24). Mary was only human. True, she was a righteous, virtuos woman to be chosen by God to bare His son, but she cannot save you, nor answer your prayers. It is in the name of Jesus, that the great works of the Lord can be done(Mark16:16-18). The apostles never gave any glory to anyone other than Jesus Christ. It was in His name that they did exploits for God.

God chose Mary to make Jesus naked?

Well, while I would no longer consider myself Catholic, if we are choosing sides and teaming up, I'll sign up for the Catholic defense side.

Agreed. The pope has all sorts of ancient relics and stuff. Fundies just bad suits and hairpieces.
Personally, I have always admired the Pope. Any guy that lives in a palace, surrounded by gold and women, and plenty of booze, can't be all bad.

Were it not for the US government, the Catholic Church would be the biggest money suck of the world.

Jman,
I agree with you. The RC concept that saints can intecede for you is not one I adhere to. I pray directly to God in the name of his Son. I say the Lord's Prayer and the Apostle's Creed each morning and then begin my personal prayer.

Saints don't grant you anything, what they do is help you with your wishes before God, since they are closer to him/her than you are...

Perhaps, but I don't buy it. Either God is going to help you out or not. An all powerful and knowing God isn't going to be on the fence about anything. Out of curiosity, assuming you perhaps know more about such things than I, why do saints respond to prayers only after they've been said/posted a certain number of times?

Listen you old fart... ;) I will go head to head with you on knowledge of Catholic liturgy and give you a run for your money. When one walks away from a given faith one does not do it out of ignorance but out of choice. One can not make the choice unless one is well informed....
:D Bring it on baby... I'm armed with my personal study edition of the Catholic bible as well as a few books by Pope Jean Paul.

This is just a choice from people, you can do it once you can do it an any number of times... It is up to you... Now, you and I and everybody (I guess) knows that religion in the end is all up to you, no one believes exactly the same way as the other... I have my own experiences in life, but they are just for me... if ever you have your own you will find it hard to convince others that it happened as you say... religion is a personal thing.
My choice stays Catholic...

I think the one thing that praying did for me and still does for me, is to take my mind off of the problem long enough to step back, become rational and realize I will deal with what ever the problem is. It has a way of centring your energy so that you can use it where it is best needed.
Then again even when I belonged to "organized religion" I never subscribed to the notion that God was stupid enough or cruel enough to directly intercede in any earthly doings.
