View Full Version : Was "That Fan" really at fault?

Anyone watching the Cubs/Marlins game last night know about the cubs' "8th inning meltdown" when the marlins got all 8 of their runs in that inning to go on to force a game 7. Most of you also probly saw what "That fan" did that many believe to have caused the influx of runs by the Marlins and to have destroyed hopes of making it to the world series and not have a game 7.
He was escorted out of the stadium by stadium personnel, and to make the night worse for him, many fans started throwing food and drinks and other objects at him as he was leaving. (I'm sure he got many other threats to go along with that).
But was he really responsible? Who believes he was or wasn't? I'm sure there are many many other factors, but everyone wants to blame "that fan". If the cubs win game 7, all will be forgiven and he can move on normally...if they lose....well....i'd hate to be that guy. I'm sure he's really kicking himself for trying to steal an out from his own team and costing them the game (since thats what he's accused of).

Not someone's shoes I'd care to be walking in. IF they lose, that particular albatross will hang around his neck for the rest of his life.

Maybe he guy was the captain of the ferry that just slashed his wrists. If he wasn't he better move out of Dodge because his days are numbered. Those Chicago fans don't cut any slack at all.

Poor bastard. Seems to me that if there's a ball heading right at you at a high rate of speed you 1) don't take your eyes off of it to check if there's a player coming over to catch it and 2) try to catch it so that it doesn't bean you in the noggin. And of course there were the other ten people around him also trying to catch it - I bet they joined right in with the crown trying to pelt him with food.

Got to feel sorry for that guy. He probably needs to go into the witness protection program now. I heard he has a 24 hr police guard because the crazies are out to get him.

Wow... that picture really clears things up. I, too, had assumed that several people were going for the ball... but... guess not!
Nonetheless, placing the blame on this poor guy doesn't make any sense to me. He's not getting paid to win games for the Cubs -- it's just not his responsibility. The guys out on the field are getting paid stupid salaries to overcome obstacles like overzealous fans. They're the ones who failed the city of Chicago.

Anyone that would hurt another human being over an innocent mistake in a sporting event should themselves be taken out to the shed and horse whipped.

If you look at that pic he's well within his rights to go after the ball. He's clearly inside the fan seating area.

I think its funny that after all of this, the marlins want to give him a 3 month all-expense-paid vacation to Miami with free dinner at Dan Marino's restaurant. If he accepts it, he's truly a traitor to all cubs fans. You'd have to be pretty stupid to take this deal from the Marlins...especially if you're a Cubs fan.

Take the vacation and do some serious job hunting. With a little luck, he'll go back to Chi-town only to pack.

What everyone tends to forget is that 2 batters later Gonzalez (SS) booted a perfect double-play ball that would have ended the inning and made this discussion irrelevent.
