The Chicago Bears have decided to part ways with Tank Johnson. This morning he was cut from the team following another recent off-field incident. This past Friday in Arizona, Johnson was pulled over for speeding and then cited for "being impaired to the slightest degree." This past March, he served 120 days in jail for violating probation from a gun charge in 2005. Now, Johnson was already suspended for the first eight games of this upcoming regular season and possibly reduced to six if particular conditions were, but after this situation, it seemed unlikely. Thus, Johnson was cut.

Personally, I am not exactly a happy camper right now. First of all, after being released from jail for good behavior, Johnson stated that he was wrong and his experience in jail made him want to change. Second, he was a big backbone to our growing team and the eight (potentially six) game suspension was already going to hurt us. Why would he even RISK it??? To my dismay, it looks like we are one man short before summer camp even begins. If we don't get our act together, we may not be back at the Super Bowl. In the meantime, goodbye Tank. Time to think about what you really want in life.

simply put, BRAVO!
it sucks that the team is going to pay for his stupidity, but that's what happens in TEAM sports. you know, alot of bears fans on their site were outraged, crying that it's not fair. that he should have been given a second chance. ARE THEY SERIOUS? hell, he's had EIGHT chances. he's a grown-ass man, not a kindergartener; time to suck it up and finally accept the consequences. you know, it's truly sad that he couldn't get his shit together so that it wouldn't come to this. that's the problem with all of these "problem" athletes. they're used to getting special treatment, so they do whatever they want and figure they'll get out of it somehow.

I've always been baffled by pro athletes that can't keep it together long enough to reap in the cash. They only have to be "good" for what - 12 years maybe? Kudos to the Bears for doing the right thing, though.

Anyone want to make a wager that he'll end up playing for the Dallas Penal League.:D

Many NFL players are going to have problems this year. The commisioner is getting serious about the behavior problems that have resulted in so many arrests, and so much bad publicity. Some of the players have refused to accept that they can't behave any way they want. All their lives they have been coddled and told how special their talent is. There have been minimal consequences for bad behavior. I blame the desire of coaches at the high school and college levels for putting winning ahead of what is good for the future of their stars. To a great extent this has been true in the NFL as well up until this year. I salute the change, and hope it filters down to the college and high school levels.

I agree with everyone of you. Obviously, the Bears are my favorite team, but when players think they can behave any way they want and get away with it, it makes me so angry! Especially if we really need them on the team! So I totally agree with Jenny....he had plenty of chances, and I'm sorry -- he's an adult for crying out aloud. He should know the difference between right and wrong, smart and stupid. And if not, that's just pathetic.
