Dennis Prager just got thru with his Sunday show.
The last hour was discussing the recent phenomena of gauntness
or being very thin among certain Women personalities.
Like Nicole Richie, and now Renee Zellweger.
It may have something to do with Feminism running amuck.
Twiggy was just a fad.
But Women like Helen Gurley Brown, made fashion statements
about a Womans thinness and being totally independent.
Most Women used to dress for other Women.
But throughout History Women were seen as attractive and
Voluptuous as viwed, painted and sculptured by Men.
I think it may be true, that other women congratulate Today's
GAUNT Women, more because they want to change the
Male-dominated historic role of Woman as pretty by being
Rubenesque.Or like Marilyn Monroe.

So Foolie what did they conclude? Personally I think it is a mental illness and has zero to do with feminism.
I do not know a single woman who would view the changes that Nicole Richie has made by losing weight as positive. She is emaciated. She is dying.
Rubenesque is likewise unattractive. It is chubby and depending upon one's body type may well be equally unhealthy. Marilyn Monroe were she around today would be at the gym and would be much more toned and thus smaller.
Big flappy boobs are not all that great to look at and neither are thunder thighs.

Not even close my dear. In fact according to Andrew Weil one of the leading nutritionists in the world, once one gets to be over 75 a little extra weight makes little to no difference for your life expectancy.
Also Grandma had a hard life. Only the strong survived AND they were active and had muscles baby... not flabby, gutty sacks of... um fat...

Well except for those women are not the ones that get all emaciated looking... those are the ones who head on up the scale... hell I know a few of my girlfriends who argue with their doctor about whether they really have put on an extra 10 and are now 250 or whether they are maintaining at 240.
And they don't look that big compared to the youth.
When the hell did eating one's self to death become acceptable in our society?
And speaking of youth who the hell makes them think they look good in short tummy tops. Rolls of fat spilling out between tops and pants seems to be acceptable. When I was in school either my mum or my friends would have been very straightforward about the reality of that look.
It is seemingly all about not hurting their ego. What the hell? They are gonna die from high blood pressure, high blood sugar and a host of other things. Screw their self image, save their bodies and their health.
What's a few extra pounds anyway? Most people carry an extra 10 from high-school, much over that and you are heading in the wrong direction for your health.
It is not a problem created by males, it is a problem created by society and coddling their self image.
MichelleG.

I'm not saying it's not a problem helped along by society, just saying there are men who belittle the woman they are with to look like Nicole Richie and that don't help matters along.
I fully agree that society and the way women are viewed is a major issue. But also,it's a personal choice,if a person don't want to at least take the steps to be healthy then there really isn't anything that can be done. If you're arguing with your doctor about a 10 pound difference.....you need help.
And for the love of everyone's eyesight,if you got rolls.....leave the tummy tops and low rise jeans in the dresser at home, that is just wrong.

Yeah those men are the ones whose true ego's are as small as their dicks. They need a gorgeous woman on their arm because they are underachievers with no self esteem.
We have BIG problems in our society. We are polarizing; skinny emaciated little girl-women right through to 400 pound mommas who break chairs. It is truly a sad situation. I absolutely think both extremes reflect a mental illness and both need help. Everyone want to "blame" someone.
It's the fashion industry, it's our male dominated society, it's the feminist female bitches... NO, it's about balance which we are sorely lacking. It's about teaching our youth balance and how to centre themselves. It's also about accountability.
Accountability is something we want to toss aside in our society today. It will find us, one way or another... Just ask Paris Hilton... ;)

True to a degree.
I heard it explained this way, and it may be the root cause.
Women's image of themselves in this country, at this point in time, is driven by what is considered "fashionable".
What's "in" in the fashion magazines, what's "in" in this city or that city, what's "in this year"..........all manner of "what is in" in clothing, hair and personal appearance.
And who is a VERY large and controlling presence on the fashion industry? = gay males.
And what do gay males like to see in a body type..............???
Long, lean muscular bodies, with NO hint of voluptuousness, very little curvature, small thin hips, very small breasts.
Hence, we have been delivered the female archetype of the 21st century = a woman with the body of a lanky 17 year old boy, albeit with tiny A cup breasts.
That is the explanation I heard, and it all fits.
Truly disturbed and disfunctional, if seems to me.

Michellel,
When I married my wife she was five two and ninety seven pounds. Thing is, she wasn't skinny. She had a small waist but was beautifully proportioned. After all our years together she is now one hundred and five pounds and still beautifully proportioned. If you are small boned you will tend to be lighter in weight.
People like Nicole Richey look like scarecrows because they do not have a naturally thin body type. They starve themselves in order to look skeletal. Just look at their faces. The look like something from a Margaret Keane painting, all eyes and bones.
I think Freethinker is right and fashion dictates that desirable girls should look like tall, thin boys.

The fashion gurus like the tall thin type merely because they look best in clothes.
Not only are young girls getting skinnier, they're also taller. They look great as they come striding into the library--like javelin throwers. When they step out with their tall boyfriends, heads turn. They wear high heels too--go to it, girls!
They tower over ME and I'm almost 5-8. Love to see those tall girls, striding out, not slouching.
PS. Remember when Princess Di was ordered by the palace to wear short heels so she wouldn't be taller than her wimpy, dwarfish hubby, Chas?
The first thing she did when she dumped the loser was go back to her high heels, which she called "tart's trotters." No more dwarfers, she declared.
Lord, I miss Di.

Ah Michelle tell them to go blow. That used to happen to me all the time when I was younger. People can be so cruel or overly familiar. I was always slim hipped and small breasted. At 5'5" I was usually between 107 to 110. I ate all the time. More than my fat friends when we were out for an evening. But there were always comments even when people saw me eating all the time. Guess they thought I heaved it up after or something. Fools think they know everything.
Some people have small frames. I have a short torso and am mostly leg...
Now a days I am much heavier but I am much older. Big boobs just kinda happen around 40 and so did hips for me. I liked me then and I like me now when I stay between 125 to 128.
Can't please everyone and most are not worth trying to please anyway.

Free, although I do not believe it is the root cause either I do think that gay men dominate the fashion industry and as such have a powerful influence on it's direction.
It is slowly starting to see changes. The runways in Spain now have a weight requirement according to height and body frame. If you are too small, you don't walk. Other countries will slowly follow suit as it is being endorsed by many high-end models.
Another area bad for weight control is the world of dance. Prima ballerinas must be tiny for the lifts and also for their ankles. The females spends hours upon their toe shoes and if too heavy their ankles blow.

Women see these skinny models in magazines and strive to be them -they think they are winners - same with women actors - Not All of them, however. Men like boobs and curves.
