Is good!
Travh got me into GuildWars, which then led to World of Warcrack and then i had a breather and now im back at it.
Best thing about this is they do away with grinding, there are sooo many quests you just dont need to. Storys solid and characters are fun.
Be a geek!

I have been seriously considering this, but not sure the wife would like the idea of a monthly fee to play a game. is there a free trial yet?

Well, my roommate is a WoW fanatic, and I play fairly regularly. He just went and picked up LOTR, I'll watch him play it some to see what its all about.

No worries,
There is a free trial that comes with every full boxed game. Travh being the first to ask is recieving mine.
I'd wager since its happened with WoW and EverQuest that Fileplanet.com will do a trial period for it with the ability to download the whole game as well sometime soon.
Its probably quite bad that I cant even remember what the bill is each month. I think its £7, but ill have to check my paypal account.
The way I see the payment thing is that since I still work at GAME I usually end up buying a couple of games a month and dont get around to playing them. For what is effectively 1/8th of the cost of a new game I have something i play silly amounts.
I should point out though that this game is really about teams (or kinships in their terminology). It is possible to do it alone but its a real uphill struggle. I had the benefit of having everyone at GAME start playing it together.
It is worth it though, the graphics are beautiful and they have achieved some great effects with the sound, really visceral.
If you buy the special edition boxset you get 45 days "free", the standard version gives you 30 days "free".
Methods of payment are all the usual with the inclusion of a sort of Paypal direct debit system (Does the US have direct debits?).
Hope that helps.

Graphics look pretty shitty to me, and my roommate says its a lot more individual based than WoW, especially in the fact that you can run instances on your own if you so choose.

I have it set to the highest settings and it looks better than WoW in my view. Though WoW has a cartoony feel to it so its not really comparable.
Well yes you can run instances on your own but past the first story you'll likely get your ass handed to you. Obviously if your lvl 50 going back and doing the first instances youll breeze through them, but I got a hell of a lot further on my own in WoW than i did in this.

Loki,
Been playing WoW for 2+ years now and ready to retire. I was a hard-core raider pre-TBC and found the constant reputation grinding in the x-pac to be just a bit too much. Is LOTR fresh enough to keep it interesting?
Below is my main character... and yes... I'm a geek :D

BTW - welcome back Loki!

This game does look a lot like Wow but it is still a very cool game to play.
I hate that you have to pay to play but I don't mind it at all. I tried Wow for a while and sorry but just couldn't do it. I love my guild wars and now the new lord of the ring. hehe
Yes a female geek...:)

Well you can still grind and early on you can force ya way up a few levels but honestly the exp you get from indivdual spawning creatures is soo tiny there just isnt any point.
They have worked hard to have a constant streaming amount of quests in the game and the area is HUGE, frighteningly big honestly. At a guess I'd say 40 to 50 times bigger than WoW assuming you can walk between everywhere (havent tested this as have had no need to travel much yet)
Ive played Ultima Online, Everquest, WoW & Guildwars. Only In UO & Guildwars was i hooked enough to hit the level cap.
Lord of the Rings to me is as fresh as this sort of game is going to get, The Storyline progression is what really drives it forward and they are promising not to do a Matrix Online and just let it die a death with nothing being introduced often.
This would have all been easier had you had the chance to try the £2 Beta test :)
Hang about and Fileplanet will be giving some 7 day trial periods to handout i reackon.

Sorry! lol I've actually been crazy busy with my internet marketing stuff so completely forgot.
Travh being that I need to go to the post office to work out how much this weighs to thus get the postage right, and thus being how thats quite annoying to do and how next friday i get a decent wedge of cash, and how the Dollar is fairly poor to the pound I'm going to buy you the game and have it shipped from the states to you.
This is also because I've pissed about not sending the Disc out, so it acts as a paid apology lol
Is silly though how everything seems to be basically half price in the states, if you did a straight currency conversion I paid $80 for the game!
This will happen next friday! Then you'll have a full account, 30 days of play and you can do whatever after that.

I bought LOTRO a few weeks ago... pretty good game so far. Of course I'm just a level 32 Guardian ATM. I'll post my perspective on end-game when I get there.
Look me up on the Gladden server... character name Daddue :)

Ohh Im a Guardian too, only lvl 22 though (clearly not playing enough me thinks lol).
Doing lonelands at the moment, did attempt to switch up to Northlands but had my ass handed to me too many times to make it worth it.

No I'm not complaining about graphics, I'm just saying they didn't look so hot, maybe, I didn't get a very good look. I'm fully aware that WoW graphics are not very good lol, even though I have it turned all the way up, so it looks pretty good.
