Depends what you want it for. Just internet, and email? Id say Mac. But if you want to play games, or use various hardware or software (that may not run on a Mac), id say PC.

I would say Mac. I don't own a Mac, but PC's are such a pain in the rear that I've decided that a Mac will be my next purchase.

One reason is that Mac's don't have to deal with Viruses or Spyware to the degree PC's do (if at all). Second, I have a diverse group of friends. The smartest ones have converted to Mac and all of them (I'm counting 4 in my head) are very happy with the transition. Third, I've seen one of my friends doing functions that would be relatively diffcult on a PC with ease on his Mac.

I like gaming myself, so that's why I've been PC. However, most games I've played are also available on Mac. PC's are supposed to be statistically faster, but approxumately once a year, I have a serious issue with my PC that results in a lot of stress over my compluter's sudden depreciation in performance. I don't see these things happening to my Mac friends, but I get a lot of sympathy from my PC friends.

Basically, PC's are such a pain that I don't think they're worth their reputed superiority.

I wont get into a Mac vs PC argument, but I will say this.
Macs are easier to use, and require no brainpower right out of the box. They dont break down or crash like their counterparts.

As far as Virus issues, its all a matter of complexity and exposure. A hacker isnt going to put forth the additional effort to write a virus for OSX, when it's so much easier to do with Windows. Difficulty factor for PC=1, Mac=10. Also, they want the exposure, and they wont get that with Macs only affecting 10% of the total market.

If you want to buy a box and just happily do your e-mail and surfing, go with the mac.

The reason why I went with a PC is that I was able to build my own. The performance of my PC wasn't based on how much money I was willing to spend. I was able to select good quality components and build a great PC. I KNOW my computer and am not afraid to dive into the inner workings should the need arise. I'd recommend that people build rather than buy. It's well worth the hassle, dammit.

I don't like Mac because it's so damn proprietary. You buy a Mac computer with mostly Mac components, have to run it with Mac software and accept Mac DRM for your digital music and videos or whatever.

Screw that, I'll take the wild and woolly PC, there are tons of free software out there for it, I can build my own and if I get pissed off enough, I can always go Linux.

I'll add that I way less than like Windows Vista. When support for XP is cancelled, I'll be moving on over to Linux, dammit.

difficulty? HA! why shoot at a lone duck when there's a massive flock on the other side of the pond?

there are no OSX viruses for the same reason there are no Aztek ground effects kits-there's no market for them.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate all of your opinions! So Macs have a very little chance of getting a virus, you're saying? Because I'm not exactly computer savvy and if I got one, I'd have no idea what to do!

Just open the case and shove some penicillin in a fan. The fan will chop it up and deliver the penicillin to where it needs to be, and will kill the virus before it can infect your own body.
