It's come to my attention that many here hate and fear spiders.

Let's scare each other with horrid spider stories and our adventures with the nasty, ungodlike critters.

Last week, I was combing my hair, minding my own business, when suddenly a fair sized web -head dangled from my own head.

Yes, it was in my hair.

It must have been on the comb and I didn't see it.

The horror........

More stories to follow!

EEEK!!

When I was in high school, I woke up one morning with a big lump on the side of my neck. Mom took me to the doc who said it looked like a SPIDER BITE!!!!

I didn't sleep for a l-o-n-g time after that just thinking about one crawling on my neck while I was asleep.

~shudder~

You know I heard that the average person actually eats like 5 bugs a week while asleep or something like that. Anyways, I hate spiders too, probably more so than any other type of creature. I don't really have any real fears of those kinds of things though.

I've heard that too, P... but I refuse to believe it.

How could that possibly be true?

My son's science teacher told his class the same thing.

He was fired, and later executed.

THAT'LL learn him to spread stories!!!!!!!!!

PS. Has anyone ever been chased around the house by a mean person who has a big fat squishy spider stuck on the end of a stick?

Just thought of another story---the time, years ago, when bossy big sis walked into a massive web full of garden spiders, when we were at Grandma's farm. They live in colonies and her crazy jig and screams of fear as she tried to get the spiders off her back, arms, and legs, cracks me up just thinking about it even now.

BWahahahahah!!!

(This was god's punishement for her stealing my bike and riding it without asking.)

Here ya go, sissy!!!

I don't mind spiders. I had a pet taranchula. He was devenomized but not defanged and he could bite but not do damage, until a boyfriend wanted to hold it and he dropped him..What a butt head he was. Oh well creepy was fun. lol

Have you ever seen a spider splat it is kinda gross and funny at the same time.

I believe it was a year, not a week---as you'd have to live in a old mansion attic to get all those spiders in the mouth.

Another one from me. (this is either good therapy, or I'm gonna have nightmares tonight... thanks, Ren)

Once went cave-exploring with some friends in OK. Walked into what felt like a cool breeze blowing across my face... shined flashlight around and discovered I'd walked right into about a MILLION daddy-long-legs!!!

Ever since then, I've hated those things. I know they can't hurt you (and are in fact, supposed to be good)... but how can you not hate something you can't figure out? (Do they actually have MUSCLES in those tiny little hair-legs or what?)

I like spiders. No worries, SMW. Daddy long legs can't hurt you. If they could, their bite would be poisonous. Thankfully their mouths were made to small to bite a human.:)

Whaaaaat? They can BITE???

The worst part of summer... when they gather on the bricks just off my patio. Near the water hydrant. There will be thousands of them and sometimes they clump together and sway back and forth... back and forth... back and forth.

I am not scared of spiders, but I do wage a continuing battle with them at work. As a janitor, I try to keep large buildings spider free, and the pesky critters set up webs in the strangest places. I have figured out how to hunt them effectively. When you find a web, take a pencil and gently tap it with a pencil a few times. The spider, which is hidden nearby, will come out to investigate and can be squished.

[B]I HATE SPIDERS..............

I was tortured with those big, black furry tarantulas growing up in west Texas....and now, thanks to reading all these stories, I feel something crawling on my feet.........

thanks, Ren!!

The ones I hate the WORST are those big brown striped dudes that live around piles of wood (or woods in general) and get as big as your fist.

Second worst are the ones (doesn't matter whether they're as big as the head of a pin... or a beer can) that come swinging down on their web right in front of your face when you're driving a car. I've nearly crashed more than once due to a spider in the car.

Not humans. Be afraid if you're small enough to get caught in their web.

I've seen it up close and personal......D ended up in the hospital from it. We had no idea what the hell it was till his mom told us what she thought it was. And, it was around the time we had been cleaning out my dad's garage and old clothes, so we assume that's where it came from. Left a nasty hole in his arm.......eeeeeeeewwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeee

I've gotten a couple spider bites since we moved into this house because my room is in the basement where the spideys like to live. The bites are small and sorta like mosquito bites but there are a lot of them all in one place and they're usually a little more irregular in shape. They sure do itch though.

I haven't seen any huge spiders in this house yet but I've seen a couple teeny ones and I assume those are the ones that have bitten me.

At a house I used to live in we had wolf spiders which look like this:

AND THEY CAN JUMP!! eek

All of us kids kept preying mantises as pets when whenever we visited Grandma's farm. They make wonderful pets and were gentle. They ate Lucky Charms out of a spoon, washed their faces like a cat, and turned their heads all around. One attacked a baby toad. A few were fully 8-9 inches in length and were either dark green or gray--brown.

We kept them in old Easter baskets at night and dressed them in Barbie clothes. A few were missing legs and antennas due to being dressed up in high fashion.

I'm sure their deaths came as a merciful end.

Ren, bless your heart... wouldn't your mama buy you no dolls?

Ewwwwwww, praying mathises. Don't like them either. In fact, other than doodlebugs and ladybugs, I'm not much of an any kinda bug person.

Anybody else have JUNE BUGS in the summer? Hate those things, too. They like to dive-bomb ya and hang on with their sticky little legs.

Ewwwwwwwww.

Once when I was teaching sixth grade about thirty five or so years ago a kid brought in a Praying Mantis coccoon. I put it in my desk drawer and thought nothing more about it. We came back from Easter vacation and when I opened my desk drawer there were hundreds of tiny Praying Mantises. It seems they hatched out while we were away. Ever try picking up a moving Praying Mantis less than an inch long?

Exactly! The bite just keeps eating away unless it's treated. Even then, I've known of people who had to have skin grafts from them......~shudder~

LOL - yeah, I never thought about dressing them up, but we did enjoy playing with them. Around here, there are those crazy looking 'walking sticks'. They are pretty friendly, too. June bugs, yes. They are just irritating and obnoxious!

Yeah, that one gives me the REAL WILLIES!!

I think that's a wolf spider. They like to live in the boonies. Once when I went on an overnight deer-hunting trip (never again), at night you could see these thousands of green eyes shining in the dark. We finally took a flashlight and went to find out what it was. Wolf spiders.

There was a spider living in my side-view mirror for over a week. Everyday, I would get rid of the web it made between the mirror and the door, and everyday it would build it right back up. Then one night I went out to my car and saw it in action; it would be the last web it would ever build. I left the squish mark on the mirror as a trophy.
