View Full Version : The Worship Gene?
Nighthawk

While a gene or cluster of genes that causes the strange behavior known as Worship (AKA buttkissing sycophantic begging) is not known to science so far, I've always suspected that such a Worship gene exists that makes people who have it-- or if it is latent, certain events in their lives make it manifest-- act really really stupid like neurotic imbeciles or retarded children at some Home for the Handicapped.
Just imagine, instead of standing up as free men and women and honoring the noble, the just, the true and having qualities like reason, courage, strength, intelligence in high regard, the opposite is desired: humility, subservience, obedience, blind faith. This is almost incomprehensible to me. As much as I might imagine an intelligent alien race visiting Earth and watching the idiotic attempts people make to get the "Supreme Being" on their side like some kind of wishfulfilling genie. You know the drill: Butter the Almighty with about 10 minutes of praise whether formulistic or not, and then the punch line "Hey God I need a better job, or that wife of mine is a lazy w(**$"
All Worship really constitutes is the attitude of a slave towards a master that is not loved but feared. No master is kind enough to make slavery sweet a wise man once wrote in Rome. It is the grovelling attitude that Middle Eastern kings in the ancient world demanded of their subjects who complied willi-nilli. To fail to bow down was to be executed post haste and God is patterned after ancient despots.
But when I look into myself, I never have felt the urge to bow down to anything or anybody, nor take the aspect of a slave upon me, most of all a willing slave. It's like I was simply born without the worship gene! I'm like the wild animals that serve nobody, only they are truly free. Besides, I've no fear of God punishing me for following the nature given me in the first place. And there's another thing. What God in his or her right mind would desire an army of cowering gutless slaves over strong independent allies? What God could possibly be such an egotistical maniac?
I imagine God, if such existed, would be a lot more like God as He appears in person in the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail. If anybody has seen this great comedy, you maybe remember the scene where God appears in the clouds and all the men bow down and grovel and God says "Get up you fools! One thing I can't stand is all this grovelling 'I'm not worthy',l 'I'm no good' I didn't create you for this nonsense"...[quote from memory and not necessarily EXACT but close enough]...
It's easy to understand that the ancients would create religions that basically involved such slavish infantile worship, but it's hard to imagine that now in the 21st century there are still people (if not the majority of mankind) who bow the knee before gods they've never seen, and worship religious heros they've never met in hopes to attain an unnecessary salvation from nothing whatsoever in some never-neverland in the sky which nobody has ever seen!
Oy Vay!
[And for Big Butt Woman or Loud Mouth Woman or some of her cronies, this is written ex tempore and not some cut and paste job. Sorry that your own writings betray a mind wasted on reading the Wholly Babble when you could have been reading Tolstoy, Faulkner, Shakespeare, Hemmingway, Tolkien or something that might have expanded rather than CONTRACT your minds!

For those interested I was forced to attend all types of religious services in youth and simply could not stand all this prayer and worship and singing of hymns. Frankly, I'd have rather had a root-canal done without anesthesia than suffer through the horrid off-key coloratura vocals of ancient hags and senile men! Yes, be warned, O ye religious out there: want to create an atheist from an early age? Deprive a child of their natural love for Nature and Play and spend all your time feeding this rubbish down his or her throats and voila, another Madelyn Murray O'Hare, or another MOI!

Hmmmmmm......sure smacks of some of warrior's writings.
It's your choice to hate it, just as it's my choice to embrace it. I have no argument with you, other than your unwarranted bashing of people that you supposedly have never had any contact with.
The God I worship IS nature, always has been. Not sure what you expect out of this type post.....regardless, have a nice day.

I've always believed nearly the same thing. People who don't believe in God lack the gene necessary for faith. So you see, instead of being SUPERIOR, you're actually missing a few parts as compared to the majority of human beings.
No surprise here.
And, BTW, I can tell you didn't cut and paste this one. Your pompous ass attitude comes thru loud and clear.

Pantheism, or the equation of God with Nature a la Spinoza has no creed, no clergy and definitely no WORSHIP RITUALS of any kind, therefore is EXEMPT from my little critique above. Capisce?

It'd be called "evolution". However, since skeptics have existed since the dawn of civilization, I highly doubt that a gene for so called "faith", exists. Especially since regardless of your stance on god everybody takes at least a few things on faith. The idea of a gene is illogical. Possibly, but highly improbable.

Of course it's not a cut and paste job, Warrior, er Nighthawk. It is original as can be seen by the nastiness of the tone. Less than twenty posts and you are already name calling and telling people of faith they are buttkissing synchophants.
Just where did you attend that Dale Carnegy course?

Who is this warrior person I keep hearing about? According to one poster Warrior is a female who is now apparently banned or some such. At any rate, I'd like to meet or hear more of what Warrior has to say. Must be pretty smart. Regardless, I myself am not Warrior and know little or nothing about this person. But obviously we are kindred spirits. I'll try and read some of the posts that might remain on this site.

Last I heard he/she was an ape. Now I hear he/she is a hawk.
Must be that evolution thing.

Thats kind of funny, I notice in every other thread I go into people are looking for warrior. It's like a which hunt.. no pun intended hehe.
I think there are going to be several suspects over the next few months. If it at all possible that warrior has found her way back to allforums, I for one am willing to see that she has more then likely learned her lesson.
So, I think personally, I'm going to cut the newcomers some slack and just stop looking for warrior.
To be honest I think she was learning some things here on all forums. Wouldnt that be the ideal Christian thing to do? Let someone learn.
You cant come to any kind of understanding if you cant learn.

I agree that we should allow people to learn. However I never got the impression from ANY of "it's" posts, that a lesson was learned.

You just keep being your same sweet self and leave the troll-hunting to others. Sort of like playing Good-Christian, Bad-Christian. You keep being the Good one, OK?

I wouldnt have said anything, but you totally make me look like a panzy here.
Do you enjoy looking for trolls? and if so why?

You'd never look like a panzy, dear. And I have no intention of making you feel like one either. I've never seen you post one thing that wasn't kind and respectful.
Unfortunately, Warrior (and the many IDs used by that person since he/she/it first showed up) -- and I didn't get along too well and I don't expect that to change no matter what form he/she/it takes here. But that's OK... immediately coming after me is like shooting off a flare saying, "LOOK AT ME, I'M WARRIOR!" So far, I haven't been wrong... she/he/it is on their third busted ID. No doubt there will be more.
But in the meantime, just keep doing what you do best and ignore me and the trolls. You do Christians proud and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Back on the topic of the thread, in which I am actually rather interested...
Although I am not personally a Christian or subscriber to any religion, I've always believed in god (although I've had doubts), and I get the best feeling when I enter a church. It's like nothing is wrong and nothing bad can happen while I'm there.

I couldnt really say what it is other then tell you my personal experience.
Which is something I dont think will help.
From reading the OP it sounds like all you would expect from God is a servent unto yourself. Seems like theres another gene we need to consider. The one that doesnt make people ask, would God creat mankind so he has somneone to boss him around?
Its kind of scary if you think about it. At some time we will have enough information to make people do whatever it is thats desired.

"If there were no God, there would be no atheists." G. K. ChestertonWell there is no God, yet here I am.
Odd, isn't it?
If God didn't exist there would be a need to invent Him, to steal a famous line.

The amazing coincidence about the IP address is you are simply talking a lot of rubbish you pathetic tart, and the three day ban has surely defeated my nefarious plans!
As you see, I post away.
You are the one who should be banned for spreading malicious lies, and banned permanently. I bet you've got quite a few persons whose posts you disagree with or whose attitude towards God you found offensive banned. How does it feel to be a pathetic sniveling boot-licking Pharisee Bigmouthwoman? So ban me if you like, I'll be back. I'm not Warrior. Warrior was a pathetic and emotionally disturbed fool. I am a Man, and I'll not stand for your pathetic lies. Our IP address is not even close to the same.

That was pretty nasty of me, wasn't it, Mr. Warrior?
