Paris Hilton is released from jail 10 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES - Paris Hilton was released from jail early Thursday due to an unspecified medical condition after serving only three days of a 23-day sentence.

She was sent home with an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet and must remain there for 40 days, according to sheriffs spokesman Steve Whitmore.

Hilton checked into the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood on Sunday night to begin serving time for violating probation.

The 26-year-old hotel heiress surrendered with little fanfare after a surprise appearance at the MTV Movie Awards, where she worked the red carpet in a strapless designer gown.

"I am trying to be strong right now," she told reporters at the time. "I'm ready to face my sentence. Even though this is a really hard time, I have my family, my friends and my fans to support me, and that's really helpful."

Hilton was housed in the "special needs" unit of the 13-year-old jail, separate from most of its 2,200 inmates. The unit contains 12 two-person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile inmates. She didn't have a cellmate.

After her first night in jail, Hilton's lawyer, Richard A. Hutton, said she was doing well under the circumstances.

"She's using this time to reflect on her life, to see what she can do to make the world better and hopefully, in my opinion, to change the attitudes that exist about her among many people," Hutton said after visiting Hilton.

When she was sentenced May 4, Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer ruled that she would not be allowed any work release, furloughs or use of an alternative jail or electronic monitoring in lieu of jail.

Sheriff's officials had said she would serve about 23 days of her 45 day sentence behind bars because of state rules allowing shorter sentences for good behavior.

The star of "The Simple Life" reality TV show pleaded no contest to a reckless-driving charge in January and was sentenced to 36 months' probation. When she was later pulled over by the California Highway Patrol, Hilton was told that she was driving on a suspended license and signed a document acknowledging she was not to drive. She was then pulled over by sheriff's deputies on Feb. 27 and charged with violating probation.

It is a joke. She makes our court system into a joke and is mooning the judge on this way.
5 bucks it was a mental health issue that got her out. closterphobia or my weak widdle heart prissy heart just couldn't handle it.

I bet Rich mommy and daddy were behind it and the lawyers finding a way to get her out earlier.

pain and suffering or some stuff like that.

Whatever pain and suffering like killing someone while driving under the influence.
but I guess that is one less commoner in the U.S.

She didn't kill anyone... And since she'll be on house arrest and probation now I suppose they'll probably install one of those breathalyzer things in her car(s?) to make sure she doesn't do it again for a while.

One does have to realize that had it been Jane Citizen that had faced the same charges Paris did, not only would she have had to face the full sentence, they probably would've been KICKED into the jail cell.

I honestly hope that those in Law Enforcement aren't wondering why sometimes us citizens think they're a joke, dammit.

She could have and that was the point for suspending her license and then for her to drive and thumb her nose at the courts got her jail time. Now she gets out of jail.

Face if she poor or black she would not be out of jail right now.

It is a joke. It just proves if you are rich and famous you can do anything you want.

You don't really think that serving her entire jail sentence would prevent her from driving drunk again, do you? I don't understand why she just doesn't hire someone to drive her around. Much easier if you ask me.

Of course.

That is not the point that would do it again even if she served her full sentence. The point is she was told she could not drive and she signed a note acknowledging that then claimed she did not know she could not drive which was a lie. She got jail time because she ignored the judge revoking her license then tried to lie to him about it.

Remember Clinton got impeached for lying not for the affair.

Well I don't think Clinton should've been impeached in the first place, but it's moot because Paris Hilton is not the President. Thank god.

Interesting. I was wondering just how much leeway the Sheriff had in determining when to release her.

I say the Sheriff needs to look for a new job. Apparently there is a law in this state that the Sheriff not the judge can determine when the jail term ends. Time fore a new Sheriff and to get rid of that particular law.

Civil rights activist are getting out their pit bulls and an investigation of the Sheriff in on its way. She was "reassigned" because she was close to a mental breakdown. Civil rights activist claim there 1,000s of inmates on the verge of mental breakdown and they do not get to recieve their favorite cupcakes, visits from friends when ever they want and ordering dog treats for their favorite pet.

It is a joke. It just proves if you are rich and famous you can do anything you want.Does the "rich" part of your above statement mean "rich" blacks as well? Reason im saying this, is that middle class whites, asian, hispanics, etc.... would be in jail right now as well. Dont know why you specified blacks and the poor as being the only ones who would have gotten jail time.

Just repeating what Al Sharpton said.

Black represent the biggest minority next to hispanics and asians.. when we talk about minorities in general we mostly use the word black.

If you are saying my statement was racist because I only brought up the black minority I suppose Al Sharpton is racist too because he failed to bring up other minority groups.

As for the poor. NEWS flash compared to the Rich the middle class is poor!! that includes you.

Talk about trying to twist my words into hidden agendas and lined with coded messages.

I bet you take peoples words out of context all the time..

better not use the phrase "you people"

geez..

A bit off topic here, mikezila, but my curiosity is getting the better of me.

I cannot discern what the meaning or significance is of the photos of PH that appear at the bottom of your posts.

What is it supposed to be suggesting......?

Just asking.

Guess who's back in jail. Judge Sauer sent her back and not for 23 days but for the full 45 days less time served. She was carted off kicking and screaming.

Martha Stewart did her time like a grownup, no whining, no bitching, and she came out more respected than when she went in. Paris Hilton cried for her mommy and had to be supported by two deputies. Her fifteen minutes of fame ended with her spoiled, rich kid crybaby act.

funindependent,

I am not a big fan of Al Sharpton but he did not say what you said he said. He said the child of a poor white coal miner or a black rap star would not receive the same treatment as Paris Hilton. In this one instance at least, he was careful to not play the race card. He said whites as well as blacks.
