Because hurricanes (typhoons in the Pacific Ocean) Form well south of California where the water is warm and head west, unless of course a front or something like that pushes it back into Mexico, which rarely happens. The majority of Typhoons form in the far west Pacific anyways, and hit places like Japan, and southeast Asia and such. California just isn't in the right spot. Not that Cali needs another common type of natural disaster anyways.

One of the major reasons is the water temperatures off the coast of California. There is a current of cold water from the northern Pacific that brings cool water down the west coast of the U.S. just as the gulf stream brings warm water up the east coast. The energy source for hurricanes is warm water in the ocean. In fact a major hurricane can cool the top ten feet of the ocean by several degrees centigrade in a path several hundred miles wide. That is a lot of energy. The water off California does not contain enough energy to support a major hurricane.

Exactly, sir. Best explanation I ever heard.

Though to be fair, that water off the California coast can hardly be called 'cool'. Frigid, bone-chilling, joint-aching, sack-shrinking, freezing-ass COLD all come to mind. But not cool.

You can also add hemispherical rotation and the effect of geomagnetic fields to the fray. If Cal was in the southern hemisphere, we'd be nailed to a cross, much like Florida is.

And it's not that we dont need anymore natural disasters. We're quite content with out free roller coaster rides that nobody else wants to have any part of

really it is because california is a blue state which means we care more about the environment so mother nature gives us a break.

Either that or Mother Nature is giving the state a break to clean up its own mess, and takes it out on the rest of the country

Unfortunately, God still uses earthquakes to punish you for all of the gays.

It's all a matter of perspective. Here in Wisconsin water, for a quarter of the year, is cold and solid enough to ski on without using a boat.
