From some friendly freelancers I got to know that in Moscow there’s going to be formed some special team of mass media reps to probe the unsolved killings of journalists. It’s high time they did it! And not only in Moscow imo.
Relating Russia the most high-profile crime in the past few years is killing of Paul Khlebnikov, editor of the Russian version of Forbes magazine. Though Russian law-enforcement agencies arrested several Chechens and pointed to them as Paul’s killers among journalistic folks the case is still seen as not finally solved. Chechens were just executors while the order originated with the Russian mogul Boris Berezovsky now living wealthy life in the UK. BTW in his book The Godfather of the Kremlin exposing the machinations of Beresovsky Khlebnikov proved the man’s involvement in the murder of Vlad Listyev, a Russian journalist and a founding father of the modern Russian TV.
It appears that Berezovsky is no stranger to both killings. Far as I know Russian authorities in possession of the data proving the fact have repeatedly demanded Berezovsky’s withdrawal, which never actually occurred. Well, I think it’s due to some political gambling by high-fliers in London.
Imo in London and other European capitals and USA as well there must be created similar teams and they should coordinate their activities to influence authorities in each case of a journalist’s murder to all those to blame. You see, as a rule “customers” tend to change their country of living once the “order” is made. Evil is not punished. We must stop this.
