I got it from a news site. CNN it is not science, it is not TV and there is no animal forum for it. I think it is amazing that the cat survived animal abuse I think it is new worthy.

Ask yourself this, "Would this story make it into the first 25 minutes of a 30 minute news cast?" If you answer no, don't bother, or put in chat central. Most of these stories you post would get like a 30 second time slot right at the end of a news cast.

There are lots of controversial topics debated here, and plenty of people here have strong opinions (and stick to them too). However, they are still able to argue their positions without causing conflict between themselves and other members. You, on the other hand, regularly get into nasty arguments with people here, sometimes about things that have nothing to do with the topic being discussed. I've observed why that happens, but I'll let you come to your own conclusion.

What possible reason could people have for scapegoating you, and only you, out of all the members of this forum? What's so special about you that makes them hold you to a different standard? I'll answer that for you -- nothing. Dozens of people visit this forum regularly, post their opinions and engage in debate. And yes, personal attacks and criticism are often delivered and returned. Yet people get over them and move on without whining, complaining, or claiming they're being picked on.

The idea that you're being singled out for scapegoating, harassment and double standards doesn't exist anywhere but in your head.

Ok, a few points. The World News forum often has a few stories in it that would probably be considered "fluff", and that's something we can probably change by adding more news forums. I'll look into it this weekend.

Different people react differently to a perceived insult and that's also something we have to take into account when we address different posters.

Warrior, if I may offer some advice...

There have been a lot of complaints aired but I think they can be boiled down to two basic issues.

1. Tact and courtesy: Warrior, you're a very defensive person. You have a tendency to overreact to a perceived slight. One example would be your statements that SMW "threatened" your children. While I think that her statements about your children were perhaps ill-advised in both timing and content, I don't think she intends any harm to your kids. Repeating this claim makes you seem a tad irrational at times. My advice would be as follows. If you believe someone has insulted you, or said something inappropriate, let them know as calmly and as politely as you can manage. If you feel angry about what someone said, wait a little while before you respond to give yourself some time to cool down. At times the best response can be not to respond at all if your response will just further antagonize someone. I want to be clear here and say that I'm not asking you to "sit back and take it" or to abandon any principles you may have regarding a particular topic, just to consider whether your response to someone will add to the debate, or just add to the conflict. Most of the members here are thoughtful and kind individuals who would be very reluctant to attack someone who was responding to them with decency and tact.

2. Volume and size of posts: Warrior has been here for approximately 40 days, and has amassed what has to be a record-breaking post count in that time. Warrior also seems to have a taste for news stories that might not appear on the front page. We only have one forum dedicated to "News" stories, and it has beem suggested in the past by some posters that we should expand our news forums to include sub-categories of news. I think this is a good idea, and I'll talk to Borg and Drew about it, but as I'm sure you understand, this weekend may or may not be a convenient time to contact them.

That being said warrior, try to look at the issue from the perspective of a long-time poster here. "World News" has been dominated recently by new threads everyday on subjects far more mundane than what might be found on the front page of the NYT. You've expressed your eagerness for debate in several posts and PM's to me, and that's commendable, but it is possible to be "overeager". I think part of the problem is that the volume of your posts can be seen as "monopolizing" the conversation. I have noticed that in some threads you've posted two or three news stories or responses in a row on some topic or another. This makes it difficult or impossible to respond simply due to the number of points that you've made. This is a debate forum, but the best debates have a conversational tone, with give-and-take from a number of people. The pace of these conversations is a bit slower however. If you respond to everybody's posts as soon as they make them it seems you're not giving others a chance to respond. Perhaps you might make a post, and then wait for a response from a few people before adding to your original ideas. Instead of making multiple consecutive posts, if you have something you want to post, write it up in Notepad or somesuch and think about it awhile before you post it so you may add any further thoughts as one post.

When posting news stories, it's always best to post a quote or a paragraph from the story and then a link to the article rather than post the whole article, and if you're looking for discussion, post some comments on the story, not just the story itself.

To everyone: I remember when I first came here I had no idea what this place was all about. I had never participated in an online forum and its workings were a mystery to me. There aren't any hard-and-fast rules here and it will take a while for anyone to understand what is, and isn't, good form. Some people have in the past stated that they lurked as a visitor for awhile, reading posts, before deciding to join. For myself, I just dropped in here one day and was a bit bewildered until I figured out who I wanted to be and how I wished to express myself. I will say that my first post was not well-received. Given time, I found better ways to say what I wished to say, and maybe it's possible that it takes some people a bit longer than others to find a way to fit in here.

As soon as I saw the title I knew it was started by Warrior by default, because 75% of all the threads here are started by her--especially the kind where a cat getting an arrow through the head counts as "world news."
