Does anyone remember the Match Game/Hollywood Squares Hour?

When both Match Game and Hollywood Squares ended in the early 80's, for some reason, producers thought it'd be a good idea to combine the two, so in 1983, the Match Game/Hollywood Squares hour was born

The show was hosted by:

Gene Rayburn hosted the Match Game, while Jon Baumann (who was a former member of 70's band Sha Na Na) sat amongst the celebrity panel. The contestant who won Match Game went on to face another challenger in Hollywood Squares at which point Rayburn and Baumann would swap places.

In 1984, the Match Game/Hollywood Squares was cancelled, yet both Hollywood Squares and Match Game would later re-appear separately on TV.

Match Game: Short lived seasons in 1990 (with Ross Shaeffer as host) and 1998 (with Michael Burger as host)

Hollywood Squares: A 1986-1989 syndication (with John Davidson as host), and the 1998-2004 revival (with new host Tom Bergeon) that was cancelled.

ahhhh...John Davidson. Thanks, dude, for ruining my day...I had mercifully forgotten the phoney hairsprayed Hollywood twit until now.

Also recall "Family Feud" with Richard Dogson, I mean , Dawson, who made it his life's work to slobber kisses on every fat housewife within a 20 mile radius of his perverted bod.

Once there was a woman on Family Feud who answered this question--"Name a common office machine" with this answer--a toaster oven.

She later outdid herself with this--in answer to "Name a drink that's stirred with a spoon" with her answer of "water."

She was from Indiana, sorry to say.

I think the important question is whether Charles Nelson Reilly was on the show.

The two greatest game shows in the history of such programming in my opinion. Rayburn was the greatest game show host of all time bar none...and Hollywood Squares can give you such a throw back kinda feel to how Hollywood once was.

I also enjoyed the last run of Hollywood Squares with Bergeon hosting - I have always thought he would be a logical choice to feel Rayburn's shoes if they ever decided to do Match Game again - and do it right.
