I prefer the fake football myself. Much more interesting.

unfortunatlely i have to agree..

SOCCER... the original football.. is much more popular around the world...

however, you can only take so many 1-0 scores... american football IS "more exciting".. even if it's easier to play.

I agree with you Liberal, I wasn't trying to argue. I was just saying that there was already a thread about this...but never mind.

soccer by its very nature is simple. Isnt one of the great things about it that a bunch of illiterate 8 year olds in Congo make a ball out of duct tape and monkey hair and play football? there is no comparison between real football and american football in terms of complexity. american football wins hands down. Just look at a playbook from any college team, its 2" thick, full of plays, and that is just offense. Give it up liberal, real soccer is not very complex when comapred to american football, and that is OK. Like you said, the whole wordl loves soccer, and that is fine.

That's true, but let's be honest here: any numbskull can memorize plays. Perhaps for coaches and the quarterback football is more complicated. Soccer takes a lot more skill in the sense that everyone has to adapt and adjust on the fly.

and any numbskull can run back and forth on a field chasing a ball too.

look, I have played both, and I can say from experience that playing soccer is not nearly as difficult as playing football. Physically and mentally, football is much more difficult. That is my opinion. I know the rest of the world isinto soccer and that is fine.

Ok, let's just agree to disagree.

Would you agree with me that for the most part, soccer is the more skillful sport? (again, exception being QB)

I have to agree and disagree with Trav here...

American football IS more complex.. but that doesn't make it automatically better.

And i've played both, and soccer is surely the tougher sport. Football is just explosions of energy, and then a minute breather. Soccer is 90 minutes of running or jogging with a halftime. You have to be MUCH more fit and in shape to play soccer. Meanwhile, you have to be MUCH more muscular and explosive to play football. So the question is, which one is easier to acquire? I guess it's for different people. I'm the type of person who can bulk up pretty easily, but have to eat near perfect if i'm going to be popping veins in my six-pack. Yet, I played soccer instead of football in high school, and i was a distance runner in track and field. Perhaps the 130 pound rail-thin guys have an easier time than I ever did becoming fit enough to run 8 miles for a warmup, do a 2 hour practice, and then run back to the school.

All I can say is that no matter how good of shape you are in, a good litmus test is to play midfielder in soccer on a full size field. You are needed on offense AND defense, pretty much 90 minutes of running up and down the field, not to mention being quick and explosive enough to dribble around defenders and still have the head to give a good pass when you are drop-dead tired.

If complexity made a sport superior, cricket would be rated as one of the best. But somehow, I doubt many people here would argue that position.

As for real football versus American football, both sports are quite simple when not played seriously, or played at a low level. It's when you start introducing tactics and strategies that the games become more difficult and complex.

if you want to gt down to it Hockey is the hardest sport to play. You have to have the endurance of a soccer player, the power and toughness of a football player, the hand eye coordiantion of a baseball player, the athletic ability of a basketball player, all while moving at 30 MPH over ice on thin blades of steel.

Shuffleboard is the hardest sport, bar-none.
