I've read the requirements for James Randi's test of a person claiming to have some paranormal power. While James Randi's a priori belief that such paranormal powers are impossible and should be summarily dismissed may in fact be the wrong approach, still the strict requirements are in fact necessary to avoid being cheated out of a million dollars. There are a lot of shrewd conartists and charlatans and phony psychics out there all wishing they had it. If I were Randi, I'd make the test so damnably hard that only a geniuine psychic could ever beat it. Quite a few ersatz psychics thought they could cheat their way to victory only to be revealed as a fraud. The test is a "Take it at your own risk" test, meaning that you'll be exposed as a fraud or dupe if you fail it. The test is fair enough and on Randi's website are listed additional claims from around the word. One geniune Pyrokinetic individual or Psychokinetic individual could amass within a year or so the sum of several million dollars. So far NONE have. Whether or not James Randi's smug assurance that nobody EVER WILL beat it is another thing. Naturally, those duped by New Age drivel are going to suspect Randi himself of cheating on the tests!

What are his requirements. You must be filmed while performing your little feat of "magick", analysed from all angles, cannot use your own props, and the results cannot be shown to be the likely result of legerdemain.

Yes, it's true that the fact that a phenom can be faked doesn't necessarily negate the real thing, still the burdern of proof is on the person claiming psychic powers, not Randi. A real psychic, if such existed, could easily kick Randi's smug little butt, but so far none have. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Would you put up a million dollar prize and give it to the first bloke who performs some card trick?
