How did you find and become a member of Allforums?

As for me...It was the time leading up the 2004 election and politics was all I could think of. In fact, I believe it was during the democratic convention - because the first thread I posted was "No Bounce In His Step?" - referring to the media's coverage of John Kerry getting no bounce in the polls following his speech at the DNC. Anywho, I searched "Politics Message Boards" on Yahoo - and I'm not sure if this was the first one or even on the first page - but the name was a lot simpler to remember than most and when I looked around the boards as a guest - I liked what I seen.

In those days - Borghunter was in highschool in Florida, Lionel was still living in Cincy, Havok was still a regular poster (and had that same 9-11 flag avatar), Drew had his infamous lighting a cigar with a hundred dollar bill avatar, and Vilepagan and I butted heads over religion over and over (although I was very much overmatched in intelligence - I still enjoyed it).


I may add more as I think of it - but now it's time to get your thoughts and recollections.

You know - I'm interested in Evakian a bit. Maybe he or someone here can fill me in on what happened. When Evakian first joined he was religious leaning and even once posted this in the "insult the person above you thread:

hehe it worked, to get myself out of having to insult jere i dropped out for that round.

Something tells me - that attitude is different now. Was it just a personal transformation or is it a new person behind the account?

I was at a different forum and someone spammed it with a link to here. The one I was on was dying a slow death, the admin was the only one with controls to the forum and he up and disappeared for years. The people actually had free reign and nothing was ever deleted, moved or changed.Spam included.
I registered here when a few of the others did.

I was more of an asshole then, time has changed me much. I kept coming back for the religion discussions, more for a better understanding of it. A few folks here helped me open my eyes on some things.

For me I was a moderator on another forum and was dating another moderator and well he had a few female friends that didn't like he and I were dating so they tried to make my life hell, trolling and such stuff. So I took a break and googled forums and found this place. This forum was more adult base then my other forum which was a games forum with lots of sniveling whinny brats. Jumped on here butted heads with a few people getting my feet wet, lol (love Imp) hehe she broke me in real fast and Napster and oh darn shit head Angel..oops did I say that out loud, my bad......
All in all this is a good place, I am back at the other forum again and back with the Brit being great I don't know what we are friends for a lack of a better word.
I guess my point is we all have growing pains and we will not always see eye to eye with everyone but respect and common courtesy are key and I feel for the most part this forum and the moderators do a descent job.
People come and go with the real world and it is nice to be able to come and go and always share.

I came here with one topic that I wanted to debate. I had my 10000 page essay on the existence of god and got pissed off when it became apparent that people who were replying didn't read all 10000 pages. That was like 4 years ago though and I learned what TLDR meant since then. This is the only forum that I stuck around on since I had some good debates early on and there were some sharp minds to joust with. Oh yea, and the mods don't bitch at you for adding a little flavor to the posts. Big plus.

I have a friend I'm going to invite here. She is in NY and posted on mine a year or so back, and she's busy as hell. I'd still like to get her back on the net and hanging out here would be good for her.

I came here almost five years ago from a classified posted on Fark. It was much different here then.

Just like Frogger it was serendipitous.

I believe my first post was in the religion section. I was sort of at a cross roads having been raised Christian/Catholic but knowing that no longer worked for me. Everything just seemed wrong. I had to work too hard to make it fit. I was more and more moving toward the whole pagan/energy thing yet had just met an evangelical Christian that was giving me a new perspective on humanity. Funnily enough, his perspective and the atheist perspective here blended nicely to give me the courage to just find my own way. Which I have.

I was quite fascinated by the outward hostility toward Christianity. It really drew me here. As did the young folk such as Borg. I knew there were gifted young ones here and that intrigued me. They seemed to not be encumbered by religious belief in the same way I was.

I left for a while so that I could find my own path. I needed the input from here and from my right-wing friend in order to put my own order together. I returned again when I had.

I love it here because there are both left and right extremes. I am a moderate in most things. Yet I love those people with the passion to be on the extreme end of things. Others think they are crazy and malign them. I think they are the ones who balance the world.

I love left and right for that is what keeps me in the middle...seeing the rightness of both sides. That is who I am. I am neither black nor white. I am gray. And thus both sides fight me and align with me. It defines me.

I love that Drew has the guts to let it all just happen. It is what makes this community hum. This community hums for me and thus I stay.

I love so many here. If even one were to go, I would miss them. We all have our place. Now is probably a good time for me to say thanks to each of you for being you. I define myself by our differences and our similarities.

I don't complain, I make suggestions to improve Allforums. People just view it as "complaining."

Plus, ES banned me (for no reason) and even admitted that what he did was wrong. Drew and the other mods agreed that he had no reason and should not be a mod if he is going to let his personal opinions on members get in the way of being a fair moderator.

I think you are right Trav. I do think that many women naturally let their guard down completely around their gay guy friends. I know I do. I can hug them and kiss them and know that there is no mixed message being sent. There is zero chance for confusion and thus it makes everything easy.

When the aliens that abducted me brought me back down to earth they gave me this computer who's only website connection was to AllForums.
