i have tried to put service pack 2 on to xp home now when it boots up it will not go past the windows screen the blue line just's stops and that is it please can someone please HELP ME.

Have you tried to bootup pressing F8 then select "Use last good configuration"??

Sounds like a corrupt driver to me. Can you boot "step-by-step" (I don't remember exactly what it's called) and see exactly where it freezes?

Its been a couple of years since I installed SP2, but I remember it took XP close to 30 min. to load, the first time, after doing the installation.
Are you sure it stopped, or was it just taking "forever" to load?

I suggest that you format your drive then re-install cleasn service pack2 providing that your windows disc is bootable or you have a startup floppy ,if your computer is P4,it only takes 40minutes and you will have a newly installed system that runs healthier and better.It is quit strat foreward.

Gafar is right. I had the same problem when I upgraded from SP1 to SP2. Windows wouldnt load. So I backed up the hard drive and installed from a SP2 disc and it worked. Unfortunately, SP2 wont take SP1 serial numbers sometimes. But there are ways around that.
