The technician just left after installing fiber optic cable for my phone, t.v. and computer. My old cable system was fast but this is about five times faster. I now surf the web so quickly I get a wind burn.

I've got DSL. It's fast enough, especially since my computer is fairly new.

I had F/O cable where i used to live. It was so fast, it felt like the clocks ran backwards, making my marriage longer than it needed to be (exaggeration).
Now I'm stuck with "high speed" copper DSL, and I have better performance with a couple of tin cans and a string (no exaggeration).
Life sucks when youre stuck in reverse.

Is it Verizon Fios by chance?

Two houses ago I had Time Warner cable internet and it was always going out. My DSL gets points for staying on without problems for 1.5 years.

Yes, it is Verizon FIOS.
I have had Verizon for my cell phones and land line phone for years. I had Optimum cable for my computer and DISH network for my satellite television. My monthly bill for the three, phones, computer and television was close to $200. The cell phones were another $100 per month.
I don't pay all that much less but the service is now better. My cell phone still runs $100 a month for a thousand plus minutes on two phones and the bill for the other three services is about $180 but I get a lot more. I now have a recordable DVR so that I can record and play back t.v. shows without a DVD player/recorder. I can also pause programs if I am leaving the room for any reason. I will also not have to worry about losing service every time there is a heavy rainfall as I did with the satelite. I can now watch movies when I want and not when the network chooses to show them as was the case with DISH Network. I even see an improvement in picture clarity on the television. In addition I now have an eight hour battery backup for my phones and computer in the event I lose electric power.
I am pretty happy with the deal.

We have the triple play with Comcast. Internet, phone and television. We like the one bill thing. But at times, I swear, the cable for the internet is as slow as dial-up at times. :comphit:

I have the same but thru Charter. I had problems with them and had them on the phone for hours. They kept telling me it was a problem with my computer, said my port 80 was blocked.
I told them ithe problem wasn't on my side. Finally the tech figured out that one of their servers had crashed and had to put in an order.
And really slow at times too.
*crosses fingers* so far so lucky since.

I use cable although they have lowered our speed from when I first bought it. Now they have a lite, one down from me and an ultra speed which is one up from me.
When I used to download/steal songs from Napster way back when, this puppy could really take some abuse. Now however my cable company has informed me I need a new modem to keep up with them. (It is free). But my computer is so old she sometimes freezes now for a few seconds. I doubt the new modem will help speed wise anyway. I need a new computer.
Soon, very soon.

Cable is a shared service and if there are lots of people on line at the same time it tends to slow down. Fiber optics is not shared. It is a one person service so it doesn't matter how many other people are online.
Oh, and it gives me free Wifi too. I am going to bring my laptop up from Florida so I can post in the den while watching 24.

That's because you're sharing bandwidth with all your neighbors. When your friends and neighbors all want to file sharing or play games or listen to music at once, your cable connection will clog and slow down, dammit.
I use a PPPOE DSL, which works pretty good most days, dammit

I'm using a prayer-based connection called Almighty On-Line. It's super-fast, but whenever I try and look at porn a big screen pops up saying, "What Would Jesus Download?" :-\

DSL through the Cable company for me. It doesn't seem too fast compared to T1 at college.

Okay, I must be starting to melt down. I read this thread quickly and thought it said, what kind of a love connection do you have? Opened it up and people are speaking about their cable.
