Who's your Horse?
1 Sedgefield (Julien Leparoux) 50-1
2 Curlin (Robby Albarado) 7-2
3 Zanjero (Shaun Bridgmohan) 30-1
4 Storm in May (Juan Leyva) 30-1
5 Imawildandcrazyguy (Mark Guidry) 50-1
6 Cowtown Cat (Fernando Jara) 20-1
7 Street Sense (Calvin Borel) 4-1
8 Hard Spun (Mario Pino) 15-1
9 Liquidity (David Flores) 30-1
10 Teuflesberg (Stewart Elliot) 30-1
11 Bwana Bull (Javier Castellano) 50-1
12 Nobiz Like Shobiz (Cornelio Velasquez) 8-1
13 Sam P. (Ramon Dominguez) 20-1
14 Scat Daddy (Edgar Prado) 10-1
15 Tiago (Mike Smith) 15-1
16 Circular Quay (John Velazquez) 8-1
17 Stormello (Kent Desormeaux) 30-1
18 Any Given Saturday (Garrett Gomez) 12-1
19 Dominican (Rafael Bejarano) 20-1
20 Great Hunter (Corey Nakatani) 15-1
It's hard for me to bet against the favorites - Curlin and Streetsense. I can see Streetsense or HardSpun being a Kentucky Derby winning name (that's my scientific approach to choosing a winner).
My logical choice is Streetsense.
I'm placing my money on Any Given Saturday. He has good odds but a nice pay off. The name would be an interesting story if he wins on the historic first Saturday in May.

Can't wait for the Derby, jere. I watch every year.
At this time, i have no favorite. Who has been running well at that distance?
Hope it's a good fast track.

I'm not exactly sure...but I have heard several of the owners say that their horse would have no problem with it. StreetSense is supposed to be a large powerful horse that takes a while to get into it's stride. He should have enough space to get their if in contention.
The weather is calling for rain - so it will probably be muddy and sloppy. We are a couple of years removed from the synthethic type mud that is replacing most of the tracks around the country - so we just got a couple of years left of slow tracks.

I understand that Queen Elizabeth will be attending in person. No doubt she will be in the VIP section with heavy security. No word on which horse she will be backing.

I assumed she'd be body-surfing in the infield.

Who has been running well at that distance? At one and a quarter mile, the Kentucky Derby is the longest race that any of these three-year-olds have run. So know one really knows who will run well at that distance.

You're rather touchy about a few things. Hillary Clinton for one. And apparently the queen.

Lionel - you must be smarter than that.
I'm not touchy about the queen - I'm touchy about the comment directed towards my state. He implied that she would fit in because of the incest sterotype here.
I'm not touchy about Hilary Clinton! I even said in that thread that I wasn't a supporter of her.
What I am touchy about is ignorance. There's nothing worse.

I thought it may be.
A lot of reports are saying that that Scatdaddy has a good shot of winning based on that he has won in the mud - but now the weather looks like it may miss Louisville - so it may be up in the air again.

The Queen is a well known horsewoman with a lifelong love of horses, racing, and breeding. She has her own stable and I believe one of her horses won Ascot.
I still have no favorite but usually go for a horse with a cool sounding name, god help me.
One of my rants ( and i guess this belongs in Chat Central) is horses with silly dumb sounding names--like the racehorse No More Flowers of a few years back.
Now what the heck kind of dumb name is that for a 3000 pound animal that could kick you into the next county if he was so inclined?
Give me names like Man o' War or Exterminator.
PS Man o War was the best racehorse ever. He never ran at the Derby-- but had records that stood for years. I have a toy Man o War horse that Dad bought me many years ago. The toy be watching the race with me today.:@@:

I agree with you on the names. Funny Cide? What the hell was that all about?
Man O' War....I travel that road quite often. I guess that answers my question to you "Man O' War vs. Secretariat."

AKC dog names are way worse.
