Someone who uses Firefox give me a good reason why I should switch from IE. I downloaded it this morning and have been using it all day, seems to be a few cool things with it, I plan to give it like a week and see how it goes.

For me there are 2 main advantages about Fox: tabs which allow not to create an armada of windows in a taskbar and abilty return to the previous session in case of sudden hanging or smth else.

From what I'm told, Firefox is supposed to be more stable and doesnt have the security issues that IE does. Ive been using it since it was still in beta, and havent looked back. The few times I've had to use IE, when I'm not on my computer, I feel like I've stepped back into the dark ages.

Firefox is MUCH more stable and no where near as many fixes and leaks as IE. Plus, I'm liking the spellcheck and add ons with firefox.

Yeah, I definitely like Firefox. The automatic spell-check is so useful.

I switched because of the tabs and because I'm sick of being directed to MSN search everytime I type in a web address incorrectly.

Firefox is great, I use it a lot because it has some really great web debugging plugins for development. It's way better than IE6, although with IE7 - the differences are really not that much. IE7 is a lot faster than FF and has the same features, tabs etc. FF used to be my standard browser, but now IE7 is.

Lionel, you can stop that MSN thing easily enough, but install google taskbar and that will kill it too.

Why switch to firefox? Let's see, for those who have a bug up their butts about Windows and Bill Gates monopolizing everything not Apple have a very good alternative. Firefox pioneered the tabbed browsing thing. It took a while to get used to it but now that I've gotten familiar with it, it makes web surfing far more conveinient. Someone described tabbed browsing feature as going from a black and white tv to color, once you make the switch, you don't go back and it's very true. You can customize the hell out of firefox, from the way it looks to what features you want. Internet Explorer doesn't even come close to the extent that you can customize firefox. I have a very simple firefox setup. Just the basic set up with the tabbed browser bar showing plus a feature called NoScript. NoScript allows one to decide what Java applets that a website is allowed to run, which helps keep internet nasties off your computer. There are others that provide a way to save parts of a website you like, to compressing URLs so they can be shared easier, to managing your music while surfing the web. Security is taken seriously. They've got a couple of web security experts who have kept on top of 'net threats and have offered a bounty to anyone who can show a security hole in firefox.

Firefox is fast, customizeable and secure. It's well worth trying. I'll add three links, one to an article about some firefox features, another is the extensions that one can add to firefox to add features the basic download lacks and firefox themes where you can customize the way firefox looks. Take a look at all the stuff, dammit.

My only knock against firefox is that, at least as far as themes go, it's all community made stuff and some of the themes can be pretty lackluster. So you do have to dig about to find a look and feel that works for you. But if you don't mind tweaking your computer, it can be a good way to kill some time on a rainy day or sleepless night, dammit.

Yes a boy that likes his bells and whistles.
But is it easy to install and use...That is my question?

If you have IE7 then using FF will be annoying because it's a lot slower.

If you have IE6 then using FF will be a huge joy because it has tabs, and is huge improvement over IE6

Bottom line, the best browser available today for joe surfer is IE7

Yeah -

I was a bit intimidated by changing to a new browser...but Borg constantly nagged at me to make the change. I did and the rest is history.

I actually owe a bit to Borg. Firefox, GMail...never made the jump to Linux though.
