In the chatrooms people are very conscious of revealing their identity.... and yet most chatrooms feature profiles which are designed to be specific enough to actually make you feel like you "know" a person.... the intent is to make each other comfortable with each others honesty... unfortuanantly, when you think about it, that very sense of comfort can be a false sense of comfort which can lead one to relax in private communications or even worse the main "room" in which all chat together at one time.... this reveals anything you say to anyone present... of course, it does.... But... people worry about stalkers singularly yes, however, they don't often think about organized efforts by groups to discover them where they live in their homes.... and this is something that should perhaps at least be considered by the chatroom going enthusiast.... one person might seem trust worthy but another which in the main room may seem to be their antagonist in chat... could actually be their cohort in some plot to discover information about a person for any purpose whatsoever from stalking, to identity theft to outright abduction for purposes ranging from prostitution to white slavery.... when considered in such a way.... protecting your information can become crucial to preventing the very chance that the eventuality considered possible but not dangerous could actually be occuring or even being actively engaged in when you are there.... most people consider such things to be something that doesn't happen often.... but it only takes it to happen once to a person at all for it to be an outright doom of outcome for them.... an organized group could manipulate conversation, confidence and trust in a downright diabolical way to discover what you look like, where you live and what you like to do which could tell them how to find you for real for nefarious purposes.... some would say, paranoid thinking or extreme suspicion on a persons part and conclude that they need to trust people just a bit more.... and yet this is the whole reason for the success of sexual predators of all kinds on the internet.... and others predators of any nature at all which do what they seek to do by such methods.... a much more dangerous possibility than could be contemplated comfortably and so people tend not to think about it much so that they can enjoy their chatting experience, but after becoming a victem it's too late to start thinking and so such things should be considered.... people complain about filling out profiles (people not doing so).... and yet ultimately, its the safest thing to do.... and falsifying public profiles is indeed dishonest and yet becomes a form of self-protection from possible predators online which I consider quite justifiable in and of itself for that reason and even if for no other, a good reason to do so in and of itself....
very much worthy of considering in my opinion....
even one group of a small number could manipulate things in such a way as to successfully accomplish such a thing and this could result in anything all the way up to a nightmare for the victem that can never be escaped from potentially.....
even if it was only just a chance as that.... wouldn't it be worth considering as a possibility to be safeguarded against? to organized groups posting a profile that is "complete and informative" could readily lend itself to their efforts to discover your identity and location.... to those experienced in such things.... this would not be difficult....
better to be safe than not.... its never too much to be self-protective....

I live at 5480 Barrett Ave, El Cerrito CA - feel free to stalk all you want. My info's in the phone book too. I really am not worried about someone on the internet doing anything. I go to bars and classes and other functions where people know way more about me and actually meet me. I live next to a whole bunch of people who have a lot more access to me than anyone else on the internet does. Why people get paranoid about internet stalkers is beyond me. I'd be more worried about the wierd people you meet in real life.

It's already out there. There are plenty of ways of people getting that info, but frankly I don't give a damn. I've got my number and my address all over the place, it's on my business cards which I hand out like candy. People live everywhere, all around you. The only difference is that I'm putting a name to a place.

paranoia you can find out all kinds of stuff with out really looking.
Like on a site I mod on we can tell you all the IP Addresses you use and from where. If anyone else logs in on your computer and stuff like that. But we only do that if we suspect hacking or extreme stuff.
But if you are on the net you can be found. lol
