The regular users of these boards have gotten into fights and scrapes with one another and their personalities DO sometimes rub. However, some people just seem to piss off just about everyone on these boards and others seem to have a better time getting along. I was wondering what some people's opinions were when it comes to someone being branded a troll and others, not.

I've only had one poster that royally pissed me off to the point where I refused to either post on any threads he started, to be civil to him or to reply if he answered one of my posts. (which he didn't do, thank God)


So, what does make people mad at particular posters? Is there such a thing as arguing too hard about a particular topic one cares about? Or is it just their personalities that set people off?

12:31: Call Mom downstairs to make Cap'n Crunch for breakfast.
12:33: Eat said breakfast.
12:40: Spend time NOT showering/brushing teeth/general hygiene.
12:50: Watch old episodes of Tom and Jerry
2:00: Space out.
4:00: Check e-mail (no messages)
4:01: Check myspace (no friends...not even Tom)
4:03: Troll World of Warcraft forums, without ever even playing the game.
4:10: Porn.
4:11: Grab tissues
4:13: More porn.
4:15: Troll Allforums, desperately clicking the Refresh button in hopes of a response.
7:00: Eat Poptarts for dinner (Mom is out with her friends)
7:05: Look at moderately attractive neighbor while he/she is showering.
7:07: Get more tissues.

9:00: Virus scan (7000 new viruses)

Oh and on the subject, I think a troll is someone who has no respect or kindness for others on the boards, who insults everyone, who argues endlessly without paying attention to the points made, and who is generally just not very civil.

I think a troll is a person that lurks on the boards reading posts all day and night till they find someone they "disapprove of" (for whatever reason) and find it amusing to try to make that person's life as miserable as possible. They like to argue....the get off on pissing people off and hurting feelings, whenever possible. They will follow that person around wherever they go just to get at them.

I have no idea why people want to do that but some do. I HATE trolls!!! Yahell was full of them, so I'm kinda glad those boards have gone the way they went......made me leave for good :D

I like the boards because I like to keep up with my friends without having to sit in a chat window all day with just one person and not get any work done. With the boards, I can check in, post a message and then go back to work. Everyone needs some down time every now and again.....right??

The only trolls I've encountered were the ones on the Yahoo message boards. The meanest, nastiest, foul mouthed, most disrespectable cretens on this planet. Trolls find the littlest thing to post about and make it vile. No conscience, no morals. They were eventually the demise of the Yahoo boards. As for Allforums, I haven't come across any trolls. Maybe I just haven't come here long enough...:lolhit: Trolls have no life other than to make normal people miserable. They feed off of it.

I think that some trolls are playing a game......a baiting game........ and when you bite, they feel like they win. I try not to feed the trolls, but I will tolerate their immaturity to a point, then I just ......update ignore list <click>

Also, you can spend a long time answering a troll logically only to have them avoid almost everything you have said and twist some small portion of your post pretending you are saying something that you were not.

Even though Warrior is a classic internet troll I won't put her on ignore. There is always the chance, slight as it is, that she might post something worth reading.

I don't put anybody on ignore....might miss something! I just read a lot of the posts without replying to any of them....knowing what I know about some of the posters, especially over in the political section, it's not worth it to even try to have a decent conversation with some of them....not mentioning any names, mind you......

regardless of what anyone thinks I am not a troll. I post things to be dabted not to just piss people off. The post I made about true face of the judeo christian god is the truth because there is more than 1,700 words from the bible proving god is the thing fred claims him to be in the old testiment. It is a fact. It is not meant to make anyone mad but to expose the truth.
I do not run behind certian people after every post and harrass them this is a troll. I was followed for week by frogger of him trying to make inflammatory commnets to make me mad. Many other who come after me post after post correcting my spelling instead of staying on topic are trolls.
I simply post stuff to debate on a debate board of course people are not going to agree that is the whole point in a debate but I have never attacked anyone specifically until they personallly attacked me.

If you realise that a Troll is just trying to wind you up, or offend you, Be Calm. Don't rise to them.

Quoting facts to a troll will do nothing, except possibly force an argument that he/she will relish in.

Compliment them before any criticism - and keep that criticism to a minimum. They don't how to react. Before long, they may find themselves drawn into sensible conversations with the group.
