This happened about a mile from my home. I'm happy to say we've got some good cops around here.

Minneapolis officer foils bar robbery; suspect wounded

A Minneapolis plainclothes police officer foiled an attempted robbery at a Hennepin Avenue bar and grill in northeast Minneapolis this afternoon by literally shooting a gun out of a robber's hand, authorities said.

Just after 3 p.m., an on-duty officer was having lunch at the Legends Bar and Grill at 825 E. Hennepin Avenue when two men entered and disappeared into the bathroom, authorities said. Also in the restaurant were roughly a dozen customers and employees.

The men stepped out of the bathroom with guns drawn. One of the men was armed with a pistol.

The officer, identified only as an investigative sergeant assigned, drew his service weapon and told the men to drop their weapons.

The men didn't answer, so the officer fired two to three shots and hit at least one of the men, according to Deputy Chief R.D. Allen.

One of the men dropped his pistol, and the two fled out the front door and ran away. Police recovered the weapon, and found that it had apparently been hit by one of the officer's bullets.

The officer checked to see if everyone was all right, then went outside. Police said the officer did not see which way the men ran.

Within the hour, authorities received a 911 call from nearby. The caller reported that there was a man with a gunshot wound in need of an ambulance.

The man was transported to North Memorial Hospital, where officers took him into custody. His identity was not released Monday evening.

I wonder what the odds are of hitting that shot deliberately under pressure.

Close range, fairly large target, probably not too difficult.

Cool shot ... lucky as can be ... but still cool. Wonder if he can repeat that accuracy.

If I can hit a 300 yard target in the head twice in a row with a rifle im sure he can hit a weapon out of a guys hand from 10-20 feet with a pistol.

Do a lot of pistol shooting do you? :)

No way did he shoot the pistol on purpose. First off, officers aren't taught to aim for the pistol. Second, a moving pistol even at twenty feet is too small a target to hit with a pistol.

It was a lucky shot.

In a statement later, the officer involved said he fired 3 shots at the ceiling, but slid off his barstool on the recoil.

Key word here is 300 yards with a RIFLE. Lol.

By the looks of it here though, I guess the guys just had a lucky shot seeing as he fell off of his barstool according to Paul.

wow that was lucky!! I would have plugged them both, no time to act like Marshal Dillon when someone has a gun pointed at you.

I thought officers were only supposed to shoot with intent to kill, not disable or wound. Whatever - awesome 007 shit there, betting it was luck though.

I give you shooting the person at that range was most likely easy for a person trained to use a gun. Actually shooting the thief's gun, on purpose, I don't buy that one, it was just luck. A questions lingers though......where did bullet number three end up??? In a room with a dozen people, that's alot of parking places for a richocet. Why would he shoot at the ceiling? It said he fell after he shot. Doesn't seem like procedure would dictate to start ventilating the ceiling.

Just wondering,
007.

You're right, Evakian. Ich Weiss Nicht, is a much better description of Sedan. It describes his understanding of so many issues so well. :lolhit:
