No doubt that's true, but despite your implication there's nothing wrong with that. When a long-time member strays from the appropriate we as mods can look at their past behavior and decide what the appropriate action would be based on that. We can look at their past contributions to the forum, and also make some judgements about their temperament and responsiveness to a moderator's intercession. With a new member that's much more problematic. We don't know how they'll react, and in fairness, they probably don't have as good a feel for the forum as a long-time member would.

I didn't ban warrior, and to be honest I don't think I would have, given the circumstances. However, a 24-hour ban isn't that big of a deal, and I suspect the message it sent was at least heard, but only time will tell. I will say that in one of the threads recently warrior was sparring with two other members and when I stepped in to calm things down, the two members basically said "ok" and warrior's response was a version of "they started it". This isn't a good indicator that warrior is amenable to moderation. When I step into a conflict as a moderator I can tell you I'm not the least bit interested in who "started it", I'm only interested in calming down the situation so everyone can enjoy the forums. One reason I didn't step into the warrior conflict earlier is because I was hoping the situation would resolve itself. It did not. Hopefully when warrior returns, as I suspect she will, things will be a bit calmer, but I don't hold out a great deal of hope for that.

You are fond of implying that the mods are biased in some way, but you're just mistaken. You say you've been warned and Prae hasn't. Why don't you ask him how many times he's been warned? Many more times than you have, dharma. The funny thing is, that despite how many times I've taken Prae to task for his behavior towards another poster, he still thinks the mods here are pretty good. I guess he understands that we have our limitations. It may shock you to learn that we don't read every post or see every heated exchange between posters. I can understand why this might lead people to see bias where none exists. Still, if you have a specific post or exchange you think is over-the-top, please point it out to me.

Confession time: I have to say that I love psychology. I read anything I can get my hands on or that passes me by. In fact it would under real circumstances sound their death- nell.

Borg made a call on a situation. I don't know if he did it for the right reasons or not. I would be biased in his favour to make such a call for I believe he is good at weighing a situation. You apparently question his ability to make such a call. That is the real question here. None the less, were I to meltdown and keep defending myself at a rapidly accelerated pace, I would hope he or Vile would have the compassion to shut me down before I humiliated myself so badly that I would feel uncomfortable returning.

I hate to break it to you, but I can ban someone, and for any length of time I wish, for any reason I want. I think hysteria is a particularly good reason for a short break because it lets the person calm their ass down.

I’m totally fine with people posting their emotions to make Allforums less dull. However, there is a point at which the emotions (insults) cross the line. And on numerous occasions they cross the line at Allforums. Insults here usually turn into harassment and many posts by members are solely meant to harass, not add “flavor” to their point-of-view. And this is why we have a report post option. And the reasons listed for reporting a post include: harassment and rude posts. Yet you are keen on allowing those type of posts around Allforums, even though they are listed as a justifiable reason to report a post. And just because someone does not repot it, does not mean it should be allowed.

The problem you face is that you cannot decipher between what adds flavor to our forum and what is clearly harassment and taking the insults too far. In Warrior’s case, the insults against her turned into harassment, and as you so obnoxiously put, humans have emotions and she was responding in an emotional way to the harassment she faced.

Why don’t you do us all a favor and work on attacking the source of the problem, not the victim of the problem.

On the contrary, my decision with neither irrational nor biased. Like I said, Warrior was acting like a cornered cat and was lashing out at everyone. She needed a break. She was not being interesting, insightful, or useful. She was damn near hysterical; I did her a favor by giving her a chance to calm down. Not to mention she had been warned many times in the past about her behavior. Ultimately, it came down to letting her post more shrill insults because she was taking things way too seriously, or giving her a breather so she could get her head on straight. And look at her posts now. She's much calmer and more rational. This was exactly my intention, and it worked.

And yes, I could give anyone a 24 hour ban. If I see someone acting that shrilly again, I will, but that's the first time it's ever happened to me. Think of it as a service I do, a reality check if you will. I make sure your blood pressure never causes you a stroke.

NO moderator directly told me specifically to stop on board or on PM about what was going on. The ony time vile said anything to me was when two of us was fighting and he said to cool it both of us but no one said I could be banned if I didn't stop. NO MODERATOR directly warned me.
