View Full Version : New Poll
Overdose

This poll says what all recent polls have said:
1. Americans think Iraq is going very poorly.
and
2. Most Americans want a timetable for Iraq and agree with the Democrats.
But something that I think should be noted is:
"According to the poll, only 22 percent believe the country is on the right track. That's the lowest number on this question since October 1992, when Bush father's was running for a second term -- and lost."

Does this mean that most Americans are yellow-bellied surrender monkeys?

i'm still waiting for a poll that releases the actual poll questions...and i'm not opposed to goals for troop withdraw, just deadlines set in stone.

Since he doesn't have the respect to capitalize "American," or to even spell it right, I have to wonder about him.

There are so many ways people can lie with polls if they are so motivated I have leaned to ignore them.
My favorite was the exit polls (exit polls no less) that showed Bush was going to lose in Virginia and North Carolina.

22 percent...?!?!?!
Wow.
Any human being that feels that this country is "on the right track' has truly lost all connection to reality.

Cheney and Bush are so wrong in their world view that it will take at least a generation to clean up the mistakes they've made and the messes they've created. As true absurdists, they (along with those who support them) are seemingly oblivious to the monstrosity of their failures.

if you're referring to warrior1972, she has mental health issues, and i think it's more a matter of style than ignorance, or a lack of respect.

We'll take it ... let bush defy the odds and take the republicans to the garbage dump of politics where they can die a slow death as did the WHIGs.
Bush, and particularily Rove (the genius ??? ROTFLMAO) is the best thing to ever happen to the democrats. They will surely bring down the republicans for several generations, possible forever.
The gift that keeps on giving.

and i'm not opposed to goals for troop withdraw, just deadlines set in stone. That really depends on how you view the war. If you think that it's been lost or that there's nothing more we can do, then setting a definite date makes sense. If you think we can still accomplish our mission then it makes more sense to withdraw based on circumstances, rather than dates.

My word how people take short-term situations and make generrational change out of it. Just four years ago people were talking about the death of the Democratic party.
Politics has its ebb and its tide.

Not sure if she has mental issues but she certainly has issues.

Jester and Phyrex, Just curious but since you both are military, what do you think of the Iraq situation?

Ya know....I'm no John Zogby....but I can pretty much put a lot of faith in any poll that shows a majority of Americans disagreeing with a president that lead us into a war without a logical reason, plan, or exit strategy.
Call it a hunch, Thislin. C'mon now.

Jester and Phyrex, Just curious but since you both are military, what do you think of the Iraq situation? To start out with, I thought invading Iraq was a bad idea, WMDs or not. After weighing the potential pros and cons, I felt that it wouldn't be worth the costs or the risks.
Four years into the war, however, I think it's essential for us to remain there and do what we can to bring some semblance of order and stability. I disagree with the people who think we've already lost and think that they're throwing in the towel prematurely. If we adopt the right strategy (and that's a big IF) then I believe we can give the Iraqis a shot at a decent future.
However, I also disagree with those who think Iraq is all fine and dandy and that things are going great over there. What's going on there is nothing short of genocide and civil war and the sooner we understand that, the sooner we will find a solution. I compare Iraq to situations like those in Rwanda and Darfur, where we did absolutely nothing and people were killed in masses. I, for one, am not ready to let that happen in Iraq, especially when we already have such a large presence there.
It's important to note, though, that that's my political opinion, and my simply being in the military does not make it more valid than the opinions held by others. Where I would differ from others is how the war affects me personally, and I'm now at the point where my entire life pretty much revolves around it. But I guess that's for a different thread.

I dint see why the democrats just dint pass legislation saying pull the troops out immediately if so many American want us out of there. Why set a time table? why not just say start pulling them out now?
They wont do that, because they know polls like this are bullshit. If these polls were right both parties would be falling all over themselves to see who could write the first bill demanding immediate pull out, instead of passing meaningless words that do nothing.

I think if there were a mad rush to Baghdad airport, it would be an end of the 'new' Iraqi government, countless more civilians would die 'if thats possible', Iraq would cease to exist as a country and Americas standing in the world would take a severe blow.
The US is going to pull out, but after fucking everything up, they have to leave some semblance of order before they go. Its the very least the Iraqi people deserve.
