I'm curious if anyone here thinks we have a worthwhile candidate to represent us in the presidency. I don't care democrat, republican, misc...
Is there a candidate worthwhile? why?

Ugh... I haven't seen much from any party, honestly. That sucks because the upcoming presidential election will be the first in which I can vote.

Ron Paul seems like a pretty good candidate except that he's pro-life...

I like Juliani even though he is republican and even though he is like backpeddling on issues like abortion and gay rights. I know he is just trying to get votes.
I like oboma too but I think he lacks experience.

Ugh, Giuliani seems like a sleazeball. And yes, Obama lacks experience. I don't think he'd win the election even if he did win the primary.

Let's wait until January. It seems we start talking elections earlier and earlier every year. By the time the real election gets into full swing everyone will vote the republican in just out of spite. we can only handle so much political TV.

The party nominees will be decided by March if not sooner, given that the primaries have all been moved up so much.

It is going to be an interesting period between then and the nominating conventions that summer--a long period of time where we know who the nominees will be but they are not official. Among other things the spending limits for the primary campaigns will still be in effect and the money for the actual election will be frozen.

I think this provides a lot of time for both party's candidates to fester and begin to smell. The press will have to have a story about each every day, and most of them are bound to be negative. That is the nature of the press. By the time of the conventions there will be no interest and the forordained winners will be everyone's least favorite candidate.

The whole idea that Obama lacks experience is kind of stupid.

Obama was a state senator for about 8 years, and will have been a senator in Washington for 4 years by the time 2008 rolls around.

Sure, he does not have the most experience, but he has enough. Plus, once you are in Washington too long you become corrupted by lobbyists and the scum that is Washington.

Besides, experience is a bad thing. Look at what happened to John Kerry. He had 30+ years of experience, and that sure back-fired. I mean, how outrageous he change his opinions in 30 years and adjust them based on the new facts we have discovered since he first started his career.

Anyway. Obama has a lot to offer and has a lot of good ideas.

I already had a thread on Obama saying why I liked him with examples. Go there if you want specifics.

Ah, warrior, maybe you should stick with someone like Hunter or Paul. They're both easier to spell.

Obama lacks experience. I don't think he'd win the election even if he did win the primary.

On the contrary - at last check of the polls Obama was in virtually a dead heat with Giuliani and well ahead of McCain. Howard Dean can tell you though, the polls often lie.

OD - I like Obama. Though, I don't think you could convince his wife that he is really got the resume to be the president. That's not to say that he won't be a good one though.

You're thinking of Mitt Romney. Ron Paul is Protestant.

You sound like you are with the Obama campaign. It is far too early for objective people to be making up their minds.

Who says I can't change my mind?

Right now I support Obama. But if things change and he turns out to be not the best person, I'll change who I support. Duh.

I liked what Joe Biden had to say back on the Daily Show a couple of months ago...really haven't heard much from him since sadly.

There is a reson jurors are instructed to form no conclusions until the trial is over.

There is a reson jurors are instructed to form no conclusions until the trial is over.Um, elections are not trials.

There's nothing wrong with giving early support to a candidate you like. As you yourself pointed out, we will probably know who the nominees are well before the conventions. This will happen because someone from each party will emerge from the first primaries with momentum -- and this momentum will come from early support. So if you really want to have any say in who your party's nominee will be, the sooner you get involved the better. Also, if you're thinking of going to work for a campaign now is the time to do it.

The key word there, Thislin, is conclusion. Overdose hasn't made a definate conclusion yet. He still has to see new evidence, sit through the cross examinations, listen to any suprise witnesses - and if he's lucky spend all the bribery money.

Then and only then will he have his definate choice.
