Theres mounting criticism of US Troops building a wall around a Sunni enclave surrounded by Shiite areas in Baghdad.
To me this will be a temporary fix and a long term disaster. Once walls like this are built they become a permanent fixture that remain for years, each side of the wall develops its own lifestyle and economy. This will lead to a divided Baghdad for the foreseeable future.

Thanks, paul.
Partitioning neighborhoods is a pretty bad idea. If that's what needs to be done to secure the area in the short term then why not just partition the whole damn country and be done with it? This will only make things worse in the long run.

This wall has seperated the main Catholic and Protestant area in Belfast for many many years. It replaced an old wire fence were once stood burnt out streets, the road is now used as a short cut to avoid the heavy traffic, but its also a feature of the city, which was upgraded within the last few weks.

and when did the last car bomb go off in Belfast?
walls only stop the lazy, like locks only stop honest people, but if it helps, it helps.

Cant remember the last one I heard, get a few bombscares now and again, especially on Fridays.
The point is, after ten years of realitive 'peace', just 2-3 weeks ago they put the wire mesh on top to stop kids throwing stuff over it.
Everyday, bus loads of tourists stop at it take fotos and sign the wall, I hate to say, lots of yanks, fucking nuts are what, its now a tourist attraction.

It is a stupid idea and it wont work they will just blow up the wall and it will cause the sunni to join the insurgance because they feel like they are being discriminated against.
More wasted money on the joke called the "war on Terror"

It doesn't matter what they build -- by late summer, we toss in the towel and start bringing the troops home.
