The legend of Atlantis, the country that disappeared under the sea, may be more than just a myth. Research on the Greek Island of Crete suggests it was destroyed by a giant tsunami.

There's something so terrifying about tsunamis.
Imagine seeing a wave 40, 50, 60 feet tall, traveling 4-5 hundred mph.
It'd be the last thing you ever saw.
Plato mentioned Atlantis but I recall few details about his narrative. I think he was just retelling a story that he himself had heard from a traveler.

I think one of the main problems is that Plato said Atlantis lay beyond the pillars of 'somewhere', which is the mouth of the med, making Atlantis out in the Atlantic somewhere.

I think it was actually a story he heard from Socrates who heard it from a traveler who brought it mainly from Egypt. I think I also remember hearing a similar story actually did exist in Egypt. Currently there are tons of theories on Atlantis. There's Crete, some other place near there, Peru, around Bermuda, etc. Every one claims to have tons of evidence, and every one twists what Plato wrote.
