It's the most hotly contested NBA draft in years - and the two likely canidates to the first overall pick are a couple of college freshmen.
Kevin Durant, the 6'9 versatile forward who had 18 double doubles this past season for Texas, is seen by most as "the next big thing in basketball."
Greg Oden, however, is a 7 foot powerhouse inside that posseses a 6 foot jumping hook shot (that is often compared to Kareem), and is expected to be the most dominant player at his posistion for the next 10-15 years.
In my opinion, Durant is the bigger gamble simply because there is a lot of parody at his posistion. Lebron James, Lamar Odom, Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett among others are all forwards. Oden, on the other hand, has no one at the center posistion that is better than him - outside of the Shaq (who has 1 foot in retirement) and maybe Yao. Oden is the kind of guy that you can build a franchise around from the ground up.
If I am the GM of a lottery pick school - I take Oden.

Who would you do:
Durmother, Duraunt, or Odin?

The repercussions won't be pretty regardless of what choice you make.

I pretty much have the same thoughts as you do, Oden is the safer pick and I'd go with him. You really can't go wrong with either guy though.

I think the word you're looking for there is "parity." Parody means that they're making fun of his position. :)

I thought it was funny. Bring back religious Jere!

There is a Kevin Durant in every draft...
And there are a ton in the NBA... T-mac, Vince Carter, LBJ, KG, etc...
Shaq is a blob in the middle, oden would run circles around him.
The only guys that compare to Oden are Dwight Howard, Amare Staudamire, and Chris Bosh.
But geez, give Oden a few years to develope his man strength and you could be looking at another Bill Russell, even if he already looks as old as Russell did at the end of his career LOL

Decka,
I'll have to take this with a grain of salt sense your an ol' Buckeye yourself.
Though, I agree with you. He may very well be the next Bill Russell. The Celtics would be the best place for Oden to end up.
He is quite the...*ahem* advanced looking young man isnt he. I believe he was a cast member on Sanford and Son wasn't he?

I would definitely pick Odin over Durant. There are a lot more guards available than dominant centers, and Odin will be a dominant center. When the Bucks traded Kareem Abdul Jabbar they got four players for him 2 draft picks and two veterans. It was L.A. that won the championships. The Bucks could never get another dominant center.
