Bloody Sunday is the term given to two events in Irish History:

1. November 21 1920 Dublin.
14 British Agents of the 'Ciaro Gang',are assassinated by the IRA.
During the afternoon,British Troops open fire on a crowd at a football
game, killing 14 spectators.
In the evening, 3 civilians being held by British Forces at Dublin Castle
die under suspicious circumstances.

2.January 30 1972 Derry
26 Civil Rights marchers are shot by British Paratroops. 13 died were
they fell, a 14th died 4 months later.

So enjoy it,it cost a lot to make.

I wish there was a catch-phrase to commemorate when the IRA killed elderly former war heroes like Lord Mountbatten and Airy Neave.

They got it coming, and it proves that sooner or later the "execution" has to be carried away, the people's court found them guilty.

You don't think Ireland benefitted from the outcome of WWII?

Unless you think a German victory would have benefitted Ireland, they are your heroes too.

They got it coming, and it proves that sooner or later the "execution" has to be carried away, the people's court found them guilty. That is the most assinine thing I've read here in quite some time.
And what do you mean "got" it coming and carried "away". Am I missing something here?

I think it wouldnt have really mattered to Ireland that much which side won.At the end of the conflict it was going to be domiated by the victor.

On 27th August 1979 Lord Mountbatten was killed by a bomb blast on his boat in Mullaghmore Harbour County Sligo. Also killed were Mountbattens grandson and a local boy.The IRA claimed responsibility for the attack.

Later on that day on the other side of the country, the IRA ambushed British Paratroops,a truck bomb was detonated as a patrol passed,6 Paras were killed,as was usual in these situations, the Paras sealed off the area and helicopters were called in to evacuate the wounded,as a helicopter was lifting off a second bomb exploded and the area was sprayed with heavy machine gun fire,a further 12 troops were killed.
These troops were part of the 2nd Parachute Regiment, the same regiment that slaughtered civilians on Bloody Sunday in Derry.

I think at the time Ireland was determind to hold on to its newly required soverignty, nothing more.
Whether that was the right course of action is anybodys guess.
Personally,I think Ireland should have offered its deep sea ports to the Allies, which is what the Allies really wanted.
If that had of happened,Ireland could have petetiond the US to push for Unity in 1945,but hindsight is a great thing.
