These congressional approval numbers are always a little screwy. Most people approve of their own congressman -- it's those other guys elected by the idiots in other districts that we disapprove of.

Bush still has 34%? That's embarrassing.

Did they only poll Republicans? Democrats take a majority and still democrats disapprove of Congress in numbers bringing the poll to the low of 31%?

If they polled only republicans, bush's rating would be higher, duh.

Pffft, they'd have a write-in that would get a 98% approval rating.

Jesus.

Congress always has low approval ratings, whether they're actually doing a good job or not. They're the ones who are most associated with the image of the corrupt, self-serving, incompetent politician. Unlike the president, who always has a bit of a personality cult around him, Congress as a whole is a nameless, faceless institutuion, and therefore much easier to blame for things that go wrong.

It doesn't suprise me. Republicans will always hate a democratic congress because they are Democrats, but the Democrats are frustrated because things are happening so slowly. There are a lot of people who didn't want this funding bill to be passed and are pissed about it.

In a recent local election, the write-in candidate of Barney Fife received almost as many votes as the 2 legitimate contenders.

Now, what does this tell you?

Many people just don't like politicians of any ilk. At least, I don't, with the exception of Senator Richard Lugar, whose hand I shook just recently. A fine man.
