Here's an article about Giuliani's support for publicly-funded abortions:

http://www.cnn.com/POLITICS/blogs/politicalticker/

Here's my take.

First off, I can't stand Giuliani's logic that says "If abortion is a constitutional right then the public has an obligation to support the funding for that right." That's just ridiculous. Contraception is a constitutional right also, does that mean we have to fund everyone's birth control?

With that said, even though I don't think the public has an obligation to pay for abortions, I would support public funding of birth control. I think the last thing we need in this world are more unwanted babies. The problems that trickle down from unwanted children are enormous and come at frightening price to our society, IMO.

But I'm tired of this attitude where poor people can do everything for free, while the middle class gets a financial pounding for doing the same stuff....whether you talk about hiring defense attorneys, buying groceries, or getting an abortion. The poor already get plenty of tax breaks and benefits as it is.

I think abortions should be legal but I don't agree that they should be publicly funded.

So I get to have publically funded constitutional rights? Where's my free gun? And free bullhorn? And free church (a small one would be fine).

Abortion lowers crime, better than the death penalty ever could.

But you are overlooking the tremendous economic benefits of providing abortions to those women who want them.......not to mention that each one aborted would be one less American -- who consume more than four times the worldwide average of energy, consume three times as much water, produce more than twice the average amount of trash and five times the amount of carbon dioxide-- to place an ever greater strain on the planet's resources.

Wow, I almost thought this was a joke. But then I saw it was you...

Wait, IS it a joke?

Wait, IS it a joke?

No.

It is undeniably true that there would be economic benefits to the government by making abortions available, and it is undeniably true that Americans consume far more of the planet's resources than people from other countries. Where is there any possible 'joke' in that.......??

It's all true... It just sounded so terribly blunt. I don't like the idea of little teeny babies being aborted. Of course I'm pro-choice, it's the only logical way to go, but I think that people like my mother who could just as easily have given up her 4 aborted babies for adoption should maybe stop and think.

Just for the record, I agree with you. I edited my original post to include a question mark where appropriate, because my mis-punctuation made it somewhat unclear IMO.

Judging by the responses, let me clarify that I don't think publicly-funded abortions are something that people are entitled to. But I would support it as a government program to address issues of population control and population quality (I would bank that unwanted children tend to turn into unwanted citizens).

You are an incredibly ignorant person.

How can allowing women the freedom to choose to have an abortion or to not have an abortion be equated with Naziism??

Seems to me the opposite.
