No thanks. I already hate the Phelps family enough. Any more and I might be inclined to car bomb thier compound.
The only reason I don't is because the sickos would enjoy that.

If there is a way to determine it, I will wager anyone on these boards any amount they'd like that Mr Phelps (and no doubt his entire clan) is a staunch Republican and that he has decidedly 'conservative' views and philosophy.
Not that that would be the slightest surprise to anyone.

I'm also a Republican, and I detest Phelps and all he stands for. If he were to run for office, the Republican party would divorce itself from him.
People like him are not "staunch" Republicans at all. They tend not to vote because no candidate ever lives up to what they want.

I have only heard about this family in passing. I will have to watch this video when I get home, as I am on campus and dont have my ipod with me.
It sounds like - from reading your response - that there is something very wrong with them.

The Phelps' antics are so outlandish that in fact a section of the article about them on wikipedia describes certain groups' doubts about his legitimacy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Phelps#Legitimacy

What a crazy, crazy lifestyle. You watch something like that and think how can anyone actually agree to that kind of stuff.
As I was watching it though, I can tell that all of them know that they are absolutely nuts. The old man is only doing this as a way to have power over others. The girls, who laugh while they are talking about the beliefs, know that they are just doing this because it's family and they havent got the stones to walk away from Gramps as four of his own children already have.

Yes, they ARE mentally imbalanced....but I could not disagree more on whether they see themselves as being mentally imbalanced.
They no more see themselves as being "nuts" than the other 200+ million people in this country who have the same invisible friend see themselves as being "nuts".

All of them hate and revile homosexuals for exactly the same reason; the Bible instructs them to. They are being true to the precepts of the Bible; that "holy" book tells the Phelps clan in no uncertain terms that homosexuals are so evil that they must be killed (executed) in a very painful and barbaric way (stoning).

If the *98%* in question do not view homosexuals as "evil" persons who deserve to be executed, then they are (thankfully) ignoring Biblical precepts.

LOL. Spoken like a true Phelpsian.
Let's face it; the Phelps are far from being the most hated familiy in America.
Americans reserve their most fierce hatred for those who do not meekly go along with the crowd; for those who walk a different path; for those who dare to speak out against the staus quo, for those who speak the truth.
America looks on the Phelps clan with a wink and a nudge; the people it truly hates are the Gore Vidals, the Noam Chomskys, the Howard Zinns.

I don't know why they are doing what they are doing, nor why they are just targeting the gays. The Bible list many sins for which one will go to the lake of fire for.
Rev 21:8
8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."

What makes someone sexually immoral? Is it to get pleasure out of sex without conceiving a child? If I fondle my wife's breasts to get her going, are we sexually immoral? We will go to Hell?

Sorry but conception could not happen; she is past menopause. Is it a sin to have sex with your wife when she is past menopause, since conception is impossible?
It seems to me if God had planned for sex to be solely for reproduction, the way the instinct manifests itself would be via the parenting instincts, not the lust instincts. For all our instincts tell us, sex and reproduction are not associated at all.
Now if you look at it from a non-theist perspective, it makes more sense. There was no plan. Lust evolved separately from parental instincts pretty much by accident.

If it weren't for "sodomy" (I take it you mean anal intercourse), birth control in poor countries would not exist.
The birth rate in rural Vietnam has plummeted now that public health has reached the point that children normally survive to adulthood. This is entirely without the benefit of modern birth control. Once people realize their children will survive, they don't want as many babies.
Your approach to the world is way to judgemental.

Fringe church plans to picket Tech funerals
The group has previously appeared at funerals for those killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
BY KIMBALL PAYNE
April 19, 2007, 12:10 PM EDT
A fringe church that has received attention and scorn for protesting the funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq is planning to picket memorial services for those who died in Monday's massacre at Virginia Tech.
Members of the Westboro Baptist Church have disrupted funerals with explicit signs blaming the war in Iraq on homosexuals. A church a news release says:
"The 33 massacred at Virginia Tech died for America's sins against WBC ( Westboro Baptist Church). Just as U.S. soldiers are dying in Iraq each day for America's sins against WBC."
Attorney General Bob McDonnell is warning protesters that they could be arrested for interrupting funerals. McDonnell's spokesman sent out an e-mail detailing the section of the Virginia Code that can be used to quell disturbances at funerals saying further that McDonnell "wants to ensure that those who perished on Monday receive the dignified and tranquil services that they, and their families, deserve."
The code section states that a person can be arrested for disorderly conduct for willfully disrupting any funeral or memorial service.
The group has threatened to protest at other events, but has not shown up.
Pastor Fred Phelps and his congregation at the church in Topeka, Kan., travel the country preaching damnation to a "nation of sinners,'" routinely glorying in the death of U.S soldiers.
His church of 75 people, many of them his relatives, believes that God causes the death of soldiers as punishment for a society that condones homosexuality.
They routinely carry signs that read "Thank God for IEDs," referring to the improvised explosive devices that have killed many service members in Iraq. The church's Web site is named "godhatesfags.'"
They have utterly offended state and federal lawmakers, who have passed laws aimed at curbing the protests. Congress passed a law that restricts demonstrations at national cemeteries and last year Gov. Timothy M. Kaine signed a bill making such protests in Virginia a misdemeanor.

I don't even know what to say. God they piss me off :upyours:
?!?!?
They are simply trying to follow Biblical dictates, which tell them in no uncertain terms that homosexuals are evil doers who deserve to be put to death.
I don't know why any Bible believer such as yourself would be angry with them. The God of the Christians--if what he says in the huge compendium of myths and fables known as "the Bible" is to be taken as the truth-- truly DOES hate homosexuals.
Phelps and his group are just trying to be faithful followers of the Bible!
I cannot help but wonder; does it always *piss you off* when groups of Christians actually do as their Bible instructs them?!?!?
I mean, sure, Phelps and his clan piss me off to no end---------but only because they are superstitious cretins who think what the Bible says means something and because they are --quite correctly from a Biblical perspective-- promoting violence, hatred and bigotry.
But why they would anger you and other Bible believers makes no sense.
