According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter) Easter,the Sunday of the Resurrection,or Resurrection Day,is the most important religious feast of the Christian liturgical year,observed between late March and late April (early April to early May in Eastern Christianity). It celebrates the resurrection of Jesus, which his followers believe occurred on the third day after his death by crucifixion some time in the period AD 27 to 33. In the Roman Catholic Church, Easter is actually an eight-day feast called the Octave of Easter.

Here is an Easter greeting to all you :)

Happy Easter Everyone!! (http://www.anonym.to?http://egg.d21c.com/egg.swf) :)

As one who has attended mass every Sunday since birth, I can assure you that this is not something in use. I've never heard the term in my life by anyone, so we can bet the Vatican desk-gnomes are the only ones who practice such.

Perhaps if someone convinces dharma to take down his annoyingly large political cartoons I shall end my comical protest.

Being the worst catholic in history Id have to agree with Evak,never heard of the Octave of Easter.
In Ireland apart from religious festivities,the Easter Rising against the old enemey is celebrated;
happy easter all.

I don't have ALL the statistics, but I do know that Easter used to be a spring celebration amongst the pagans, this is where we get the chicks and bunny rabbits. As they were a symbol of new life. Of course, when you've got missionaries trying to convert the natives, they'd have their holidays coincide with important Christain holidays. Which is why the death and resurection of Christ at Easter coincides with all those rabbits and eggs and chicks people also associate with Easter. Christmas is the same story, with Christ being born but there is also a secular celebration with that fat guy coming to my house and dropping off all kinds of gifts.

Dammit.

how the patron saint of children was "secularized" is still a mystery to me.
