Can someone please critique this rap song:

Respect It

Yo, it’s the ‘art of literary encryption,
Laced with ‘metaphors and vivid descriptions.
Although some is ‘not with the utmost precision,
It ‘has generally accurate depictions.
Some of it is compl’etely filled with fiction,
But what you bel’ieve is your own decision.
Good ‘poetry’s an accurate definition,
Getting ya’ll ta res’pect hip-hop’s my mission.
‘No more rap hating, ‘no more rap dissin,
Some ‘rappers almost end up in prison.
‘In the cell ‘and the drop is ‘where they convey their depictions (end)
They ‘use to their incredible visions,
And they battle ‘back lyrical friction.
Sometimes these ‘lyrics are about false suspicion,
Which can ‘lead to a life and death collision.
To under’stand the life exhibitions,
You need to under’stand this shit, don’t just listen.
Find the goods of this ‘shit by proper inquisition,
Art and ‘feeling’s the main tradition.
‘Rap and hip hop is poetry with ‘often vulgar provisions (end)
In the game, there’s ‘always a talent addition,
But soon, there’s a ‘negative career revision.
Rappin’s ‘all about creative spittin,
With absolutely ‘no muthafuckin restrictions.
Distinguishing Biggie from rap is ‘like performing nuke fission,
2Pac doing classical’s an ‘image no one can envision.
Most inner cities ‘have a stereotypic condition,
You’re doomed to an ‘automatic eternal perdition.
In your talent, the Mobb will ‘make a verbal incision,
And the Wu will ‘hit you with quick lyric ‘mmunition.
Dre’ll shock the ‘world with verbal emission,
Eminem will ‘blaze ya’ll with his contradiction.
Don’t think of them as ‘cussers, their talented musicians,
Whose careers ‘end up going into remission.

Chorus*2
Yo, respect it,
Don’t try ta fuck around with this shit.
Respect it,
Their guns could blaze once their lit.
Respect it,
Don’t even think they have no fuckin wit.
Respect it,
Fuck with them, be prepared for a verbal hit.

Verse 2:

Open-‘mindness is the primary key,
Of course self-‘interest is also indeed,
But remember these are ‘really hard-working MC’s,
And writing this ‘shit isn’t always a breeze.
Even though the heat ‘rotates three sixty degrees,
The life can be ‘’bout the birds and the beez.
Even though I’ve ‘never represented the streets,
It’s ‘been a part of my daydreams.
Rap is about ‘artists’ freedom of speech,
Combined with ‘mostly incredible beats.
I get experience ‘from what I see on movies,
And from the ‘shit I listen to on CD’s.
Rap and hip hop is ‘very special to me,
Because of the ‘works of the Wu and Mobb Deep.
In some cases in the drop the ‘peace is hard to keep,
In many cases the price of ‘living can be really steep.
In some cases, many ‘people like residence in cities,
Because for ‘some it can be simple to make cheese.
Now, some this shit is hard to ‘spit cause my experience is weak,
My only source of knowledge is ‘viewing films and words artists speak.
Now back to the issue at hand, why ‘rap and hip hop’s so neat,
The talent these artists have ob’tained is really a treat.
So the next time you listen to this art, try to ‘fully understand it please,
Cause the shit they ‘spit is the air that they breath.

Chorus*3

Well, we are all entitled to our own opinions. To me, yes I am a big rap fan, mostly hardcore and gangsta rap, while rock, R&B, alternative, and other forms of music take talent, rap takes the most amount because of all the different aspects of it: regular, prewritten lyrics, freestyle, and disses to people. Rap rules, ESPECIALLY Eminem, I couldn't care less about what other people say. That may be contradicting to my first statement, but deal with it.

Rap is not music, it is its own thing. Yes in my OPINION rap does SUCK especially when you are at a stop sign and the arse next to you has to have it vibrating his window. With that said " too each his/her own.

Well, I have seen plenty of vibrating windows caused by music other than rap. I do agree, however, that those people are assholes. However, being a former fan of rap, I can say that I like it somewhat. It is a bit...just a TINY BIT...degrading to women, or should I say "ho's".

Borg now you have done it,...."HO's"

Danzini

How the hell is it degrading to women?

BorgHunter

Do I really need to find some lyrics to "Back that Ass Up" or "You's A Ho"? Or do you really believe that rap is not degrading to women?

Danzini

I can understand how Back Dat Azz up would be degrading, but this song has absolutely nothing to do with women.

BorgHunter

I never said it did. I was referring to rap in general.

Oh!, sorry for the misunderstanding. Generally, a lot rap does tend to degrade women, but sometimes, like most of the songs I like, they don't have anything to do with degrading women. The only artist I love who happens to degrade women, but obviously I don't like him for that reason, is Eminem. His beats, his lyricism, and his comedy and some of this messages.

yes, some songs degrate women, but women also make it so easy when they get up in front of the camera half naked and make a fool of themselves.

EmShadyGRRL

sure they do, with all their teeth coted gold and all. but they were talking about women being degrated.

Danzini

its true that women are often degraded because of how they are portrayed on television in music videos. They choose to perform on certain videos in order to be close to a rapper or to get the money, so yeah, its no wonder they get degraded.

k so i think this whole "conversation" got way off the point of what it was meant to do...which was to critique the song. personally i thought it was good. you might think that thats just because i like rap already ;) but whatever. it was good. like rap or not...like was said, youre entitled to your own opinion. so why not respect others opinions? therapist911 it made you puke? i think you need a therapist. or 911. shit.

I would agree that rap is a very controversial genre and it may also be a required taste. That said, I think people should open their minds to it a little more. Even if people don't like Em's content, everyone needs to admit, his rhymes are amazing. Also, those of you who think that rap has no talent, lets not keep it out of the realm of talent. Talent is needed for anything from Haiku's to Shakespeare to Bach or Mozart. But think about it: the different parts of rap, battling, freestyles, and rhymes, plus the human beatbox, Razhel. No one can tell me that rap has NO talent. If rap had no latent, it wouldn't have even come to be, and whether or not some people think that rap shouldn't have come to be, it is here, deal with it, and it takes talent, because it was made, deal with it.

i'd get better enjoyment out of wiping my own @$$ with barbed wire toilet paper than listening to rap...but then again, that is my own opinion. I'm more of a Rock fan anyway.

Just as you and many other replies to this post said that rap basically sucks, I think that rap takes the most amount of talent. I'm a HUGE rap fan and a semi rock fan.

hehe, well I wouldn't put it quite that way, but that was close to how I feel about rap. I see no talent at all in that stuff. But then again I am a lover of classical music. Rap to me is an insult to real music.
