Theismann out at Monday Night Football

Mar 26, 2007 11:26 AM
BRISTOL, Conn. (AP) – ESPN is changing quarterbacks.

Joe Theismann will no longer be part of the network's Monday Night Football team, and will be replaced by Ron Jaworski, the network announced Monday.

Jaworski, 56, is known for his studio analysis, and ability to break down game tape for viewers.

"This new lineup will enhance our presentation of Monday Night Football, our most important property," said Norby Williamson, ESPN's executive vice president for studio and remote production. "Ron has covered the NFL from many different perspectives, and he is totally tied into the issues and trends from around the league.''

Theismann, who played quarterback for the Washington Redskins, will be offered another analyst job with the network, Williamson said.

Jaworski, who quarterbacked the Philadelphia Eagles, will join play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico and analyst Tony Kornheiser in the booth. Suzy Kolber and Michele Tafoya will handle sideline reporting duties.

Monday Night Football moved from ABC to the cable giant last season, averaging a 9.9 ratings share. That was below what the games had on network television but up by about 40 per cent over the viewership ESPN had for its Sunday Night Football broadcasts.

I think they're both decent, so seems like a lateral move to me.
