View Full Version : Typical Day?

I'm curious what everyone's typical day is like. Some are probably very regulated while some people maybe have a weekly-schedule, like doing this Monday, that Tuesday, etc. Maybe some people live very randomly, but I suppose a pattern can still be observed. Or you can be an adventurer, and your typical day is not typical at all, like wrestling a crocodile and bungee jump. I don't know. But it'd be fun to see what AFN'ers typical days are like.

Well, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, I get up at 5:30 and leave the house at 6 with my step-mom. I go to her office for a bit before school, then she brings me to my first class, and I'm usually at school until about 2:30. Then I go back to Eileen's office and eat lunch and just sit there for a while. We leave at 3:30 and pick up my sister on the way home. Then I stay downstairs with them while Eileen makes dinner, then we eat, then I come up to my room and sit on the computer for a few hours. I watch TV most nights.
Tuesdays and Thursdays I sleep all day, and Saturdays and Sundays I generally sleep some of the day and then just hang around with the family at home.
Notice there's not much social life in there. Not much at all. I might go out with friends on a Friday, once every few weeks.

Mon: sleep generally from 3:30am till 6:30am. Get up and get my son ready for school, help Kathy get ready for work. Kiss them both as they leave and go back to bed. Generally around 8:30 am till about 1:00pm.
Get up, do some chores (laundry, dishes, shit like that) then get ready and go to work. Work: 4pm till Midnight. Get home watch some tv, pop some popcorn, (most nights it's microwave. Some nights I go old school. But I always have popcorn. :corn: ) Get on comp and then go to bed around 3:30am.
Tues: Same
Wed: I'm off, the morning is the same, but I don't sleep until one (usually). I try to get up and do something. Go visit my grandmother, or go have lunch with Kathy.
The night is spent doing family stuff. Nothing that exciting. After everyone goes to bed. Then it's the usual, some tv (popcorn) :corn: and gettin on comp.
Thurs: Same as Mon & Tues.
Fri: Same
Sat: Same
Sun: I'm off so I hang out with the family. Until the night, then it's right back to what I know best. (more popcorn) :corn:

Monday, Wednesday, Friday: Get up at 9, shower, then it's Systems Programming, DiffEq, lunch, Physics, dorm room.
Tuesday: Get up at 10, shower, then it's Politics & the Media, lunch, Psych, TA office hours, dorm room.
Thursday: Get up at 9, shower, TA a CS lab, then Politics & the Media, lunch, Psych, dorm room.
I usually have a latte after my last class (around 3) as a midday pick-me-up. I generally do my laundry on Thursdays. Friday nights I have a Star Trek sim to run. Weekends I do very little but sleep until 1 and bum around. Like DF, I have very little social life, though usually my friends (one of whom is my roommate) can rope me into watching a movie or something. Going places has been more sporadic now than it was at the beginning of my first semester, thanks to increasing academic demands on everyone, not just me. I go to bed around 2 usually.

Tuesday - Sunday: See above

Ok so its not really that bad, but If I work that day ill work however long I need to work, and mostly just relax when I get off. Ill go on the computer, listen to music, play some piano, write, whatever. And whenever I get days off, ill do pretty much the same stuff mixed in with some occasional drunken debotchery (sp?) and going out to the ville, or seeing the sights.

Except for the work from 7a.m.-3p.m. I play it all by ear. You never know what it's going to be afterwards, I do make a big dinner one night of the week and grocery shopping on Sat. or Sun. otherwise, movie, show, go watch a band, game night with friends, computer, read a book etc. I do the laundry and housework in between so I'm always ready to go if I want to.

M-F -- Up at 4:15, catch commuter train at 6... work, work, work. Off at 3:15, back to my car by 4. Run errands, help elderly stepdad, cook dinner (on a good night), read or watch TV til early bedtime. Weekends... sleep in (until at least 8!), clean house, grocery shopping, attend family gatherings, occasional night out with girlfriends.
Oh yeah, also volunteering on United Way Community Awareness Panel, which requires 14 site visits to various charitable organizations to decide who gets what. While it's an honor to assist, probably won't be doing this again (requires using vacation time to attend afternoon panel meetings).
No computer at home... by choice.

By the way tonight i had an outstanding day: i woke up as usual and was on my way to university. I didn't want to go there at all in fact, cause i slept only some 3-4 hours.
Anyway when i was in subway smth happened there and our train stopped dircetly in the tunnel between 2 stations. First i thought that it is power shutdown (now it rarely but happens because of extreme overloads). A driver reported that there was a broken train in front of us and we have to wait until they fix it. We waited more than 2 hours. I slept very nice and went back home. :D

On weekdays I get up at 8:15, and unlike a lot of people it seems, I don't do anything between getting up and leaving for work except getting dressed and groomed--I get into my car at 8:30. Traffic is always bad and I get into my office at 9:10. I've stopped drinking the office coffee because they are so awful, so I do some browsing and organizing to get into the mood and start working writing software. I am much lazier about cooking these days and 95% of the time I would go out for an hour lunch around 1 o'clock. At 6 I get out of my office and head home. But if the traffic is looking terrible (50% of the time), I would hit the grocery store (always one around) or the mall (much closer to work), maybe even the bookstore, instead of dealing with the traffic.
My evenings typically consist of going to the gym (5 times a week), watching a movie (3 times a week), going out to eat (90% of the time, as opposed to heat up some food or cook at home), reading, video gaming, and the internet. Oh, I forgot to mention my favorite: 3 minute chess online against strangers! I shower and go to bed around 1~2 am, sometimes later, rarely earlier.
I do laundry and clean the apartment/car on Sundays. I also do most of my bills and go through mails (that I put aside during the week) on Sundays. Generally on Saturday and Sunday I'd sleep till 11, take a couple hours relaxing around, clean, and use the computer, then go out to eat lunch. I usually just leisurely drive around in the afternoon and stop when I see something interesting. If the weather is good I hate to stay home during the day. When evening comes it's usually (another!) nice meal out somewhere, likely with friend...but rarely more than 3 people in all. Seems like my life revolves around eating out! Late night activity depends on what's current, but usually I prefer just watching a movie unless something really special is going on and I have company.
The weekend is also when I'd be talking a lot on the phone with my girlfriend, who lives in Toronto.

I have THE most boring life in the world. Since my sons are grown and on their own I have nothing to do! I used to be the mom that drove everyone's kids to school, errands, volunteering at their schools, baseball, basketball and so on. Now all I have is this house to keep me occupied. I don't have a car (long story) and I have to depend on my husband to take me into town on weekends:( I just wanna cry...lol But when my grandson is born, I will be a frequent babysitter! Finally, something to do!

yes sir. i like it. its something i get 2 do alone n get beter at.i need time 2 practice my moves. i wish i didnt have school. it cuts in2 my skating time
I'm up at 5am everyday, I try to sleep in during the weekend but it rarely ever happens. I do physical therapy with Sammy then get him ready for school. After dropping the kids off, I go to the fitness center here and work out for about an hour. I take a long bath and then start my day.
Normal running around tending to the house- pay bills, grocery shopping or doing business or take a long walk on the trails here enjoying life and nature.
I get the kids from school, do supper and then after homework is done, we go to the playground here or some kinda treat for them then unwind doing personal time whatever we want. Bed time for the kids and hubby time if we aren't fighting. If we are, then I'm running across the internet buggin you good folk. If not, we have our time before he goes to work. Night time I'm either finishing business til I'm exhausted or surfing the net again. Ta da.
Weekends we like to go places 'exploring' or to a new place we haven't been to get acquainted with the area. Met new friends here and have been having cookouts with them friday nights. Usually Saturday we each just chill and do nothing or whatever we want.
i wish i didnt have school. it cuts in2 my skating time

Seriously. I never went to high school, not one day in a school building, and I'm in college with a 3.75 GPA at age 16. Fuck school.
I never went to high school, I'm in college Fuck school.
Yeah.
One thing I teach my kids is how important school is and how important good grades are. I want them to excel and apply themselves. I myself haven't had schooling and have done very well financially without it, but it is important, especially in todays world where they require diplomas and advanced learning to even get a job. Please don't discourage Littlejoe from applying himself to school. For goodness sake, he spells 'to' as '2' and shorthands alot of his words. You'd think he should apply himself for a brighter future.
Just saying.

Of course. School is very important. I'm not saying that the path I've taken is for everyone, but it's certainly working for me. I could be in high school right now, bored out of my mind and with no friends (I don't get along with people my age at all.), or I could be where I am, which is in college being challenged and enjoying my classes, doing well and having fun with friends. It's nice. :)
You are very bright for your age, Df. I actually think Borg and Vile and Nap and a few other here are also, even littlejoe perhaps, I dunno. But what kinda living can you make from skating? seriously.
I might of read his post all wrong, I've been known to do that. Thats a large part of why me and the net don't mix. I think Joe is talented, I've read his poems and posts and I think it'd benefit him to encourage him to pursue school.

So all those poor people you're bitching about in the "if I was President" thread are allowed to not have jobs if they have a passion for something?

Unless their passion is watching security tapes in women's bathrooms so they can watch the women have their private time. You could somehow squeeze a job out of that, however, Sacha Baron Cohen has already taken the position.

But one doesn't need to have a job doing one's passion. Just a job to support it. To keep you in pork chops and mac and cheese while you're out hitting the skate park every day.

"Anyone riding pro these days makes a very good living. Mid-level skaters earn $50 to $100K a year, while the really good guys make between $500K and $1 million. But believe it or not, it's rarely about the money. Basically skaters get paid to do what they would be doing anyway, which is trying to skate better than the laws of physics allow."

Ride a moto concho home from school at 3:00. Hang out at home, check email, watch tv, writing, music, etc. Yoga from 6:00 to 8:00. Eat dinner. Talk to friends over AIM and then sleep.
Occasionally (Once a week) I decide, "Fuck it, I'm going surfing." In that case, I skip school and go to the beach all day.
