View Full Version : Replace Cheney?

Rumors persist that Vice President Dick Cheney might resign, either because of health reasons or political pressure. Not to mention that he might croak. While I think these are remote possibilities we all know anything can happen in politics. So I was wondering ... if Cheney were to vacate the office of Vice President, who do you think Bush would (or should) choose to replace him?

The first person I thought of was Dan Quayle. As far as I know he's not busy doing anything and he probably remembers where the light switch is in the men's room. Or maybe Bush would like to make some history by appointing a woman -- Harriet Meiers would be a good choice there. She's not qualified to sit on the Supreme Court, but VP? Why the hell not?

What are your thoughts?

True. Andrew Johnson didn't have one.

Newt Gingrich, after admitting that he had an affair during Clintons Impeachment, he's easily two faced enough for the job.

thats true, but as we all learned during that period personel life stuff doesnt mean anything when it comes to doing a job.

Strange how all the Republican die hards on these boards try and defend their man, even when they know he/she is in the wrong, it seems that comparing Republican wrong doing to Democrat wrong doing makes it ok.
Did you not notice that Trav.

it works both ways. Only I will say Gingrich and Clinton are scum for cheating on thier wives. Good luck getting a democrat koolaid drinker to call Clinton scum.

Bush raises his hands before Congress with a hint of red madness in his eyes.

"Cheney is dead. Cheney remains dead. And I...errr...we have killed him. I shall now eliminate the office of Vice President and implement a new cabinet position: Middle East Ass Kicker. I've got some plans for Iran."

Nancy Pelosi stands up. "No!! You're a weenie!"

Bush (aghast): "Wha? I am not the weenie, you are the weenie!"

Pelosi (insulted): "What will you accomplish with this new appointment?"

Bush (cackling): "Real ultimate...POWER!"

Pelosi (apathetic): "All this talk of power and weiners makes me want to grab a beer and get a room at the Watergate. You game?"

Bush: "I was done born game."

Bush leans over and whispers to ghost of Senator Wellstone. "Dude, I'm getting to hit a nice piece of ass."

On another note, Trav was saying Bush could finish his term without a VP, and I said Andrew Johnson had done just that. But the 25th Amendment, passed in 1967 changed this. Section 2 states:

Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.

Where's all the conservatives who were shouting Condi for president just a few months ago? Looks like they are backing off that one ... ROTFLMAO ...

Well, here's Bush's chance to make good ... Condi for VP. Go Condi.

I friggin double dare 'em. And if he does, start filling the bathtub.

What this administration has always needed is someone who can make grandiose claims which, when they don't pan out, is not questioned later. This would have helped them in Iraq.

I nominate Mr. Patrick Fitzgerald or Mr. Lungdop Philing.

If Bush really wanted to show he's a "uniter, not a divider" and that he wants to "change the tone" in Washington, he could always nominate a Democrat to the position.

They already have FOX news who questions nothing that the bush administration does, works out or otherwise.

I doubt Bush could find anyone that would take the job. It would certainly be the end of that person's career given Bush has an approval rating of 29%, the lowest in history for a sitting president during wartime and one of the lowest ever for any president under any circumstances.

Where would the new VP have a career after finishing out this term of less than 2 years? Certainly not in politics with the dems taking the white house in '08, solidifying the senate and adding mega seats to the house. Not on the international stage either, given Bush is the most hated president in history.

Hopefully, Lieberman will take the position so that in Jan, '09 he is totally marginalized with nowhere left to go besides FOX news as a political analyst representing the Israeli, AIPAC and LIKUD lobbies.

the only problem i recall with Bolton's nomination to the U.N. was that he was too crass and authoritarian-for that post.....Rummy OTOH had Senators calling for his head on a platter after trying to pull off the Iraqi occupation on the cheap.

Senate, both Houses-either, or.

Breaux was advised not to take it because a Republican governor would then have appointed a Republican to replace him.

There is a tradition in the USA in which only white people's statements are considered racially insensitive or racist.
Mayor Ray Nagin of New Orleans, who is black, said that after New Orleans is rebuilt, it will be a "chocolate city" the way it "should" be.
He got some light teasing and re-elected.

Yea I remember him, from the Katrina days.
From the first bit of the broadcast I got the impression he was making very racist remarks.
Tho on the second bit, he seemed to get out of it pretty well, tho if he was a white man, his career would be over.

... if Cheney were to vacate the office of Vice President, who do you think Bush would (or should) choose to replace him?

Karl Rove is the only political operative (aka - *GOP bag man*) I can think of who could rival Cheney in terms of being as cold bloodedly dishonest, as scheming and possessing the requisite --"Fuck the peons, let's raid the Treasury and give it all to the rich!"-- ideology that the current Administration demands of its appointees.

I have been predicting this for a while. I don't think it will happen until a clear frontrunner rises out of the Republican cantidates and then that person will get picked.
