Does anyone else have problems connecting VOICE on aim with anyone??

I recently discovered my Cable modem firewall blocks the attempt to go voice, but when i add MY COMPUTER to the DMZ zone so the firewall is disabled basically,it still wont connect..... (I have a local firewall also)

I called my friend last night who has AIMPHONELINE and he also has a cable modem (Toshiba) Yet his modem didnt block our voice connection..... I have a PCX 5000 and he has a PCX 2600 if im not mistaken.......

I just dont understand why i havent been able to 'GO VOICE' with anyone for over a year now.......

RAM doesnt have anything to do with it does it?? (I only have 56M (It always used to work))

Then i was wondering if "aimtalk.dll" has something to do with talk connections and if i upgraded THAT FILE to the latest if it would work then....

Im running AIM 5.5.3598ca (Best version,no games no crap)

Thanx all for your help!!!!

Last time i was able to connect voice was 1 1/2 years ago i think and it was a friend who has Win98se (She has AOL installed also),i connected to her fine...... (Im also on 98se)

Thanx

Can you get a voice connection working with Skype? If so, AIM is just a piece of shit (not surprising; it's made by AOL). If not, it's a firewall problem.

Current version is:

AIM 6.0.28.1 Stable, released on November 15, 2006 (for Windows 2000/XP/XP x64)

Since you have 98 you should consider upgrading to:

AIM 5.9.6089, released on August 31, 2006 (for Windows 98/NT4/ME/2000/XP)

Yes skype works fine!! (But its bloated as hell @ 19 Megs)

Im trying to see if i can find someone to reverse enginner version 0.97.040 (edit the new server info into the script) either that or take out all the garbage in 2.0.0.73 So it closer to 10 Megs instead of 19!!!!

I think i found the solution im not sure.....

Symptoms of ISP Port Blocking

If this is the cause you will not be able to Video or Audio only chat.

From this page > http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page4a.html

I wouldnt put it past my ISP to do this!!

I know my cable modem blocks it,but when i enter MY COMPUTER into the DMZ zone,it should work (Yet it doesnt)

I think you might just need another hard drive if 19 megs is "bloated"... Definitely need a new OS if you're using 98se...

19 megs is bloated for a simple messaging program. Reverse engineering it to get rid of 9 megs is a bit futile. Nothing wrong with trying though.

Yes it is way over bloated!!!!

All i want is the MESSENGER and VOICE parts,i dunno if someone could look into it for me or not....... (Or reverse engineer an old version of skype changing the server it connects to (to the new one))

Anyway,

I tried logging on to the AIM on 1 of our XP computers upstairs and as soon as i clicked CONNECT TO TALK,it froze!! :D (I logged on w/another screen name) -- I had to do a system restore to get things working again.. (Version 5.9.3861)

I entered my computer into the DMZ field on my firewall again and enabled scripts and was able to connect voice with someone running AOL (not just aim) so it will be interesting seeing if i can connect to others with voice also :)

Well i connected fine VOICE last week with someone so its gotta be peoples LOCAL firewall blocking the voice connection request..... (At least i know its not a problem on my end)

I dont use VOICE very often on AIM but sometimes i like to and its good to have it work :)

One thing that bugs me like crazy is when you get AN OFFLINE IM!! (You get 2 windows,1 from "Aol System Msg" and its a pain in the ass!! (I thought about adding "Aol System Msg" to my blocked list :D (ICQ doesnt do that, you just get the 1 message window (On an offline IM))

Ah well..........
